Two men were tragically killed in a freak accident while cleaning the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT)’s Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri yesterday afternoon (Monday, 13th June).

Johor police chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, revealed that the police were notified about the incident at around 12:30pm. It’s understood that the two victims slipped and fell to their deaths while carrying out maintenance work at the football stadium.

The police official stated, “The accident occurred while the two victims – aged 34 and 35 – were working at the stadium. Both of them died at the scene. It’s understood that the weather was fine and it was not raining at that time. We have classified the case as a sudden death and investigations are still underway.”

Football club Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT F.C) also released a statement on their official socials to address the unfortunate incident. “The entire JDT family expresses our deep condolences to the family of the two staff. JDT are awaiting a full report of the incident from the authorities and the company we have contracted to maintain the stadium,” they wrote.

In a related news, the Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) has already started their probe into yesterday’s incident. The duo were assigned in pairs to clean the canvas roof using rope access near the Gate A entrance. The victims (both were local technicians) fell from a height of 27 meters from the roof.

So far, the police have yet to provide further updates on the case.
