2 Bold New Drops From Christopher Ward & URWERK Are Totally Worth Your Time!

by Dean Zaini
January 8, 2025

Get ready for some seriously exciting drops in the world of luxury timepieces! Christopher Ward’s C1 Bel Canto Classic and URWERK’s UR-150 ‘Scorpion’ are here, and these watches are redefining the meaning of mechanical art.

Whether it’s the Bel Canto’s signature hourly chime or the Scorpion’s explosive retrograde hand, both pieces bring unmatched craftsmanship and jaw-dropping design.

Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto Classic

Christopher Ward has unveiled an exciting update to its C1 Bel Canto lineup with the new Bel Canto Classic. This refined version retains the signature sonnerie au passage chime – a distinctive feature that rings at the top of every hour – and pairs it with a sleek, three-dimensional dial design.

The watch boasts a sophisticated laser-etched guilloché pattern, giving it a tactile and visual appeal that complements its mechanical innovation. The dial, available in gold, green, silver, and blue, has a timeless feel, especially with the newly added Roman numerals on the 12 o’clock subdial, enhancing its classic design.

At 41mm in diameter, the Bel Canto Classic maintains the same dimensions as the original, with a titanium case that offers both durability and lightweight comfort. The FS01 manual movement, based on the Sellita SW200-1, powers the watch with a 38-hour power reserve, while the signature chime rings out on the D6 note.

The watch may not compete with minute repeaters in volume, but it brings a unique charm to the table at a much more approachable price.

While the original Bel Canto had its share of production delays and hiccups, Christopher Ward seems to have learned from those early setbacks. This time around, the brand is ensuring smoother deliveries, promising that watches will ship within two months of order placement. The goal is to have a steady in-stock inventory by the end of February, so collectors can look forward to timely and reliable availability.

The Bel Canto Classic isn’t just a watch – it’s a statement of mechanical artistry and design. Whether you’re captivated by its hourly chime, the elegance of its dial, or the craftsmanship that goes into every piece, it’s a watch that stands out in a market filled with high-end options.

Get yours now starting at US$4,225 (RM19,039) on a strap or US$4,540 (RM20,459) on a bracelet. Don’t miss out – order today and enjoy the timeless elegance and unique chime of Christopher Ward’s latest masterpiece.

URWERK UR-150 ‘Scorpion’

The URWERK UR-150 Scorpion is a masterstroke in avant-garde watchmaking, combining mechanical precision with an aggressive design. A bold evolution of the brand’s iconic satellite hours complication, this timepiece comes housed in a rounded shell that contrasts with its fierce inner workings.

The retrograde hand, mimicking a scorpion’s stinger, strikes each passing minute with lightning speed, reflecting URWERK’s signature mix of aggressive symbolism and understated elegance. With a 240-degree arc for the minute display, it’s a technical marvel that captivates both watch collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

The UR-150 Scorpion isn’t just a watch; it’s a performance. As the hour hand jumps from 60 to zero, the retrograde hand makes an explosive 240° leap, while the hour satellites rotate 270°. Driven by URWERK’s new satellite complication system, the UR-150 features a flywheel and pinion mechanism that delivers the perfect balance of speed and precision. It’s a feat of engineering, with a sophisticated winding system powered by twin turbines for maximum shock resistance, making it as durable as it is stunning.

Designed with a curvaceous case that ergonomically hugs the wrist, the UR-150 brings an artistic touch to its mechanical intensity. The watch’s profile and sapphire crystal form a unified shape, blending gentle lines with the potent forces of its internal mechanism. Martin Frei, co-founder and creative director, describes the UR-150 as a “vibration in the spacetime continuum,” a duality of calm and storm, beauty and power.

The new system comes with a 43-hour power reserve and an automatic twin-turbine winding system, visible through the back of the case, adding a satisfying mechanical touch to its futuristic appeal.

With just 50 pieces of each version available, this is a true collector’s item. The UR-150 comes with a price tag to match its exclusivity: the Titan is priced at CHF88,000 (RM438,539), while the Dark goes for CHF89,000 (RM443,522). But don’t let that stop you from exploring its awe-inspiring design up close.

Ready to own a piece of cutting-edge watchmaking? The Urwerk UR-150 ‘Scorpion’ is available now—secure yours today before it’s too late!
