Malaysia’s young sporting talents continue to make the nation proud! This time, 16-year-old swimmer Max Tang is preparing to take on the international stage as he represents Malaysia at the OCEANMAN World Finals Championships 2026.
The Kuala Lumpur-born athlete will be competing at the prestigious championship, taking place from 13th to 15th November 2026 in Miches, Dominican Republic.
And there’s even more reason to celebrate! Max has also been selected as Malaysia’s official flag bearer, giving him the special honour of carrying the Jalur Gemilang at the world championship.
From Double Champion To The World Stage!
Max earned his spot at the World Finals following an impressive performance at OCEANMAN Kota Kinabalu in July 2026, where he emerged as the champion in both the 2KM Sprint and 5KM Half Oceanman events.

What’s even more impressive is that Max didn’t just win his junior categories. He also claimed the overall championship titles in both distances, finishing ahead of swimmers from all age groups, including experienced adult competitors.
At the time, Max was only 15 years, before celebrating his 16th birthday in September.
His achievements don’t stop at open-water swimming. The young athlete also competed at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 alongside some of the country’s talented swimmers.
He was also named to the longlist for the 400M freestyle events at the 48th Southeast Asian (SEA) Age Group Swimming Championship 2026, showing his dedication to both pool and open-water swimming.
Carrying The Jalur Gemilang With Pride
At the upcoming OCEANMAN World Finals, Max will compete in the 15-19 age category for both the 2KM Sprint and 5KM Half Oceanman events.
He will be going up against talented young swimmers from around the world, making it another important step in his sporting journey.
Speaking about the opportunity, Max shared his excitement and pride in representing Malaysia.
“It is an incredible honour to represent Malaysia at the OCEANMAN World Finals, and an even greater privilege to carry our national flag. I am very proud to have this opportunity and will give my very best in both races,” he said.
Balancing School And His Passion For Swimming
Apart from his achievements in swimming, Max is also doing well academically. Currently a Year 11 student at Garden International School (GIS), he is pursuing 10 IGCSE qualifications and has already achieved two A grades ahead of completing his remaining examinations.
Despite his busy school schedule, Max continues to balance his studies with regular swimming training, providing that dedication and hard work can go a long way.

Through his journey, he hopes to inspire other young Malaysians to follow their sporting dreams while continuing to work towards their academic goals.
As Max prepares to compete against some of the world’s best junior open-water swimmers, he carries not only his personal ambitions but also the pride of representing Malaysia.
From winning two championship titles in Kota Kinabalu to carrying the Jalur Gemilang on the world stage, Max Tang is certainly a young Malaysian athlete worth keeping an eye on!
