10 Book To Film Adaptations To Look Out For In 2020

From “Harry Potter” to “The Hunger Games”, many of our beloved literature have already been adapted into blockbuster films by the studio giants over in Hollywood. However, this doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left to adapt – quite the contrary actually.

There are still millions of books out there that tell millions of stories that are ready for the big screen. So without further ado, here is a list of some of the best books to film adaptations that will be hitting the cinemas in 2020:

1. “Artemis Fowl”

  • Release Date: 28th May 2020
  • Cast: Ferdia Shaw, Judi Dench, Nonso Anozie, Lara McDonnell

Based on the novel with the same name, Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old genius and descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds. He soon finds himself in an epic battle against a race of powerful underground fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

2. “The Witches”

  • Release Date: 22nd October 2020
  • Cast: Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock

A little boy stumbles across a conference of witches while staying with his grandmother at a hotel, and gets transformed into a mouse by the Grand High Witch.

3. “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway”

  • Release Date: 2nd April 2020
  • Cast: James Corden, Daisy Ridley, David Oyelowo, Domhnall Gleeson

The sequel of the adaptation of the children story of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The story goes that while Thomas McGregor and Bea are on their honeymoon, Peter Rabbit runs away from home. While on the road, he befriends a rabbit that is an old friend of Peter’s father.

4. “Dune”

  • Release Date: 17th December 2020
  • Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, 

Based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, the story is set far into the future. Duke Leto Atreides has accepted stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. It is the only source of a drug called “the spice”, the most valuable substance in the universe as it provides accelerated levels of thought and extends human life. Despite knowing that this is a complicated trap set by his enemies, the Harkonnens, Leto still takes his young son and heir Paul, his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica, and his most trusted advisers to the planet. He takes control of the spice mining operation, even though it is dangerous due to the giant sandworms in the area. When the Atreides family gets betrayed, his son Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of the planet.

5. “Dolittle”

  • Release Date: 23rd January 2020
  • Cast: Robert Downey, Jr., Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson

The movie follows the adventures of Doctor Dolittle, a character created by author Hugh Lofting. The doctor lives in solitude with his only companionship comes from an array of exotic animals that he speaks to on a daily basis. But when young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, the eccentric doctor and his furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find the cure.

6. “The Call Of The Wild”

  • Release Date: 20th February 2020
  • Cast: Harrison Ford, Karen Gillan, Dan Stevens, Omar Sy, Bradley Whitford
Movie Tea: “The Last Of Us” Greenlit For A Third Season; Robert Pattinson Might Join “Dune 3”

A live-action CGI-animated adventure film based on the 1903 novel of the same name by Jack London. It follows a sled dog’s struggle for survival in the Alaskan wild. The dog is a domesticated St. Bernard/Scotch Collie named Buck, who is sold to freight haulers in the Yukon after being stolen from his home in Santa Clara, California.

7. “The Invisible Man”

  • Release Date: 5th March 2020
  • Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge

A loose modern adaptation of both the novel of the same name by H. G. Wells and a remake of the 1933 film adaptation of the same name. “The Invisible Man” follow Cecilia Kass played by Elisabeth Moss where she want to start her life anew after escaping from her boyfriend, who is a rich and brilliant but violent and controlling scientist. She would later learn that her boyfriend have died and left a big portion of the wealth to her, but she soon suspect that the death was a hoax as she felt an invisible present stalking her. 

8. “The Woman In The Window”

  • Release Date:14th May 2020
  • Cast: Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Tracy Letts

Dr. Anna Fox an agoraphobic (fear of situation that cause panic, trapped, helpless and embarassed) child psychologist, saw something she shouldn’t while spying on the Russell family, the seemingly picture perfect clan that lives across the way.

9. “Greyhound”

  • Release Date: 22nd October 2020
  • Cast: Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Shue, Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan

A war drama based on C.S. Forester’s “The Good Shepherd”. The film takes place during the early days of World War II. In his first command of a U.S. Navy destroyer, the Greyhound, Captain Ernest Krause leads 37 Allied ships to cross the treacherous North Atlantic while being pursued by German Nazi U-boats. Along the way, he fights his self-doubts and personal demons to prove his use as a commanding officer.

10. “Without Remorse”

Movie Tea: “The Last Of Us” Greenlit For A Third Season; Robert Pattinson Might Join “Dune 3”

  • Release Date: 17th September 2020
  • Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, 

A spin-off story of the popular Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe. John Clark, aka John Terrence Kelly, is a former Navy SEAL who is now working as an operations officer for the CIA. He is seeking revenge after a Baltimore drug lord kills his girlfriend.
