Last week was a challenging one for the music industry and especially for “Pick Up the Phone” artist Travis Scott. The rapper, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster, was arrested in Miami on 27th June (Thursday) and faced multiple charges.
According to TMZ, the incident unfolded when the rapper asked his driver to return to a yacht he was previously aboard early Thursday morning. An insider familiar with the situation reported that the artist realised he had left his bag and phone on the yacht so he returned to retrieve his belongings. However, upon returning to the dock, the situation took a turn for the worse.
The source explained that the public figure had already been involved in a heated argument with the yacht crew and wanted to avoid further conflict. In an attempt to get his belongings back without escalating the situation, Travis asked the police escort to retrieve his items. Despite having been warned by a sergeant to stay away, the 31-year-old returned to the dock, which led to his arrest.
TMZ reported that a Miami Beach Police spokesperson confirmed they would respect the judicial process and allow the case to proceed. According to The Guardian, the songwriter was arrested last week in Miami Beach and charged with disorderly intoxication and trespassing. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Police stated that the artist became involved in a disturbance on the yacht, yelling at people on board. Despite officers’ instructions to sit down, he repeatedly stood up, disobeying their orders, which contributed to his arrest.
After his arrest, Travis quickly posted bond and was released. The incident was downplayed as a minor charge. As of reporting, Travis has yet to address his arrest.
