While Mandopop star Freya Lim (林凡) has made a name for herself in Taiwan, the singer has never forgotten her Malaysian roots. Recently, the Taiwanese-Malaysian singer revealed that she had returned to her father’s hometown of Penang and even shared photos from her trip.
For those unfamiliar with Freya, the singer was born to a Malaysian father and a Taiwanese mother. She was born and raised in Taipei but has Malaysian nationality because of her father. She recently shared that she had returned to Penang to spend the Dragon Boat Festival with her extended family. The singer took to Instagram to share photos and videos taken from her trip.
In her captions, Freya wrote, “When I return to my father’s hometown, the sun is always shining, and there are endless amounts of delicious food.” Sure enough, the star shared photos of the food she had eaten in Penang, including satay and prawn noodles. The 45-year-old and her mother also visited many Penang tourist attractions, including the Chayamangkalaram Buddhist Temple and the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion.
Freya also shared a video she took during her trip, showing her song being played at the tourist attractions she visited. According to her captions, the vocalist said she was at the Lee Jetty with family members when she heard her song playing from an old radio nearby. While it’s unconfirmed whether someone had purposely played the song because Freya was in the area, the vocalist cheekily joked about the scene, saying that this is Penang’s way of welcoming her.
In the comments, many fans wished the singer would have a great time in Penang, hoping she’ll enjoy herself in her hometown. We also hope Freya will make tons of great memories while in Malaysia.
