Heineken Refresh made a triumphant comeback in 2024, and it was as electrifying as ever. The event featured an incredible lineup, including Brazilian world-renowned DJ Alok and local sensation BLINK, who performed amazing sets. The full house at Sunway Lagoon, with over 1800 fans, enjoyed an unforgettable experience.
The event kicked off with an impressive lineup of local artists, keeping the party alive all night long. Malaysia’s Top 10 female DJ MJ ignited the night with her electrifying set, followed by Mr. Yang and Ashley Lau, who took the stage together before welcoming the headlining DJs. The event featured an interactive live voting system called the Heineken® Music Takeover, introduced during the sets of Mr. Yang, Ashley Lau, and MJ. Using LED wristbands integrated with technology, attendees could synchronise or change colours in response to signals, allowing the crowd to collectively influence genre selections in real time. This dynamic interaction created a seamless connection between the artists and the audience.
The first of the main three DJs was BLINK, who kicked off his set with a remix of BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU DDU-DU”—a clever nod to his name, which also happens to be what BLACKPINK fans are called. It was a brilliant and catchy way to energize the crowd. Known for his signature fresh twist, the DJ delivered a sensational performance featuring a 20-piece orchestra that covered chart-topping EDM hits.
He elevated the experience even further by bringing special guests Glenn Yong and Victoria on stage. The fusion of music and instruments set the perfect vibe for the night, making it impossible not to dance along. His stage presence was spectacular, and his ability to interact with the crowd made his set highly entertaining.
Next up was the most anticipated act of the night: Brazilian DJ Alok, performing in Malaysia for the first time. His visuals were by far the best of the three, with each display perfectly synchronized to every beat, lyric, and song, creating a mesmerizing experience. As you watched the screen, you couldn’t help but be immersed in his music. Towards the end of his hour-long set, Alok showed his love and appreciation for his Malaysian fans by playing the anthem for his upcoming set at “Tomorrowland,” sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Finally, the night closed with WUKONG, the Monkey Boy from Singapore, whose electrifying electronic bass music infused with Chinese influences was the perfect way to wrap up the event. His stage presence was unmatched, as he jumped around, hyping up the crowd and truly living up to his name, Wukong. His visuals featured Chinese mythology characters designed like animated video games, perfectly complementing his music genre. Unfortunately, he had to cut his show short by 20 minutes due to time overlapping with Alok’s performance.
The overall experience at Heineken Refresh was truly one to remember. From the dazzling light shows to the bursts of confetti and fire during each set, the event kept fans on their feet, fully immersed in the vibrant atmosphere and captivating music. The night concluded on a high note with a spectacular fireworks display.
Heineken Refresh is part of Heineken’s cross-genre global music campaign, ‘Refresh Your Music, Refresh Your Nights.’ Earlier this year, the campaign introduced Heineken Fresh List, an innovative digital activation in partnership with Spotify that broke down the barriers of musical taste.
