Did you know? The renowned brewery, Heineken, has been around for more than 150 years! And being around for that long, they know what’s good and what’s not. As a fellow party-goer, what goes well with alcohol? Good food, good friends and of course… good music!
To celebrate music and Heineken, they have launched their ‘Refresh Your Music, Refresh Your Nights’ campaign in Asia with five local and international artists performing. These include Thu Minh and Karik from Vietnam, Yunohoo and NYK from Malaysia, and of course the famous electropop duo, The Chainsmokers!
We at Hype had the chance to join this refreshing event and it was da-bomb! Being among the 5,000 music fans crowding at Resorts World Genting, it was definitely an experience to remember. Prior to the concert, a voice echoed the halls asking us to open our minds to different music from different cultures – and it was indeed a magical musical journey!
Going into the concert, fans expected nothing much but local DJs and their Electronic Dance Music (EDM) but it was so much more. The music they curated was a mix of so many different genres from pop to electronic to rock and even traditional Indian drum music called Dhol! When the drums came on stage, the booming of the crowd was electrifying it was ahhh… refreshing!
As one of the main headliners of the event, local singer Yunohoo came in blazing with her two dancers. The singer kicked off her performance with three of her original songs: “Kaalam,” “AV,” and “Rani.” And finally, alongside The Chainsmokers, she ended her performance with The Chainsmokers’ hit song “Don’t Let Me Down” in her own unique musical style.
This was then followed with local singer NYK’s performance, which he opened with his own hits including “Daylight,” “faded,” and “PRETTY BURN” before moving into his cover of “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers. NYK’s performance was such a banger it roused cheers from thousands of music fans!
Apart from Yunohoo and NYK, the evening of music also featured other lively performances by local DJs Blink, BATE and Julian. The 5-hour event went on to be one of the best music events in Malaysia to date and it was definitely an epic night to remember.
“Through the ‘Refresh Your Music, Refresh Your Nights’ campaign, we wanted to echo Heineken’s belief that life tastes better with an open mind, regardless of social situations or music preferences. The fans’ incredible energy and willingness to break out of their music bubbles affirmed our belief that music does transcend all boundaries,” says Rajeev Sathyesh, Heineken Brand Director (APAC).
