When it comes to achieving something great, there are times when you must lose something precious to you. In the case of local beauty queen Datin Harveen Kaur, something precious was a body part.
The Malaysian recently showed a remarkable feat of endurance and determination when she conquered the summit of Mera Peak. The mountain amid the Himalayan range in Nepal stands at an astonishing height of 6,470 meters. While it’s considered a trekking peak, scaling this mountain can be challenging even for experienced climbers, especially because of the unpredictable weather and extremely low temperatures.
Harveen embarked on the journey, accompanied by a Sherpa guide, and reached the summit on 11th April. Mera Peak is the 44-year-old’s second conquest, with the first being her ascent of Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro on 24th September 2023. The accomplishment also earned the former Mrs Malaysia World a place in the Malaysia Book of Records as the ‘First Beauty Queen to Summit Mount Kilimanjaro’.
Unfortunately, her accomplishments meant making big sacrifices because Harveen eventually lost her left middle finger to frostbite after her Mera Peak climb. She shared her experience through an Instagram post, saying she felt a tingling sensation in her hands during her ascent. However, the public figure remains positive and ambitious despite losing a body part, because she has already set her sights on conquering another mountain by the end of the year.
While it must’ve been devastating for the public figure to lose a finger during her conquest, we’re glad that it hasn’t put a damper on her adventurous spirit. Once again, congratulations to Datin Harveen and we hope to see more amazing achievements soon!
