“Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” Season 1 Finale: Did Time Travel Create Spider-Man’s Origin?

A strange twist in time makes a revelation that could change Spider-Man's story forever.

After a month of episodes swinging by, “Your Friendly Neigborhood Spider-Man” has finally concluded with its final two episodes. Indeed, the last batch of episodes have all been pretty exciting as Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Iron Man, and a big bad in the form of Scorpion showed up, making their own impacts in the show.

In fact, things really ramped up in episode 7 as Peter was stabbed through the back by Scorpion (youch). He spends some time to recuperate and reassess his role as the hero New York needs. Osborn’s mentorship of Peter starts an inner conflict when he suggests that Peter stop holding back and embrace his powers, reinforcing the idea that power demands respect.

Through all this, Norman Osborn begins unveiling his true colours – green, it’s always been green. Nevertheless, his ultimate plan has been unclear thus far. The unveiling of Harry’s new costume, inspired by Peter’s designs, further cements the bond between the two and their shared vision for Spider-Man’s future. This sets up the perfect crescendo, as fans were teased with the promise of a familiar icon, serving as the exclamation point to Peter’s transformation.

So, what happens next for Spider-Man and his amazing friends?

Mr. Osborn It Smells Like A New Car In Here

First up, it’s a rematch of the arachnids. Following up on the promise of the previous episode, we finally get the classic red and blue in the Spider-suit as Peter Parker steps into his full Spider-Man persona. The shift from his more grounded, makeshift suit, to an enterprised costume, and finally to something that represents who he is symbolizes not only his evolution as a hero but also his growing acceptance of the responsibility that comes with his powers.

With the 110th Street Gang enacting a plan to seize some tech for themselves and gain an upper hand in their against The Scorpions, a car chase ensues with Nico Minoru almost getting hit by an Oscorp truck. However, Peter arrives there just in time to stop the vehicle in its tracks, and show off his new suit in all its splendour!

As the Scorpions show up, the tension skyrockets. The 110th gang prepare for what is sure to be a violent showdown. The streets serve as the gritty backdrop to this escalating turf war, and it’s clear that both sides are fighting for dominance in a world where alliances are fleeting, and survival is the only goal.

Peter, caught between this escalating moment attempts to alleviate things with some signature quips and moves but when he sees Scorpion, he’s shaken due to the memory of that brutal beatdown. At its core, the rematch isn’t just physical—it’s symbolic of Peter being forced to confront his past mistakes and uncertainties.

Source: Disney+

The rematch between Peter and his foe takes on deeper significance now, with the stakes higher than ever. As Peter dons the Spider-suit, he’s no longer the inexperienced teenager grappling with self-doubt but a hero fully coming into his own. It’s not just about brute force anymore—Peter has learned to be strategic, using the environment to his advantage and relying on his enhanced senses to anticipate his foe’s attacks.

But all that is only enough to keep himself on par with the ever sharp Mac Gargan.

Piledriving That Tombstone

Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, has indeed become one of the most compelling aspects of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man“. By treating him almost like a co-lead, the show has given audiences a unique perspective on the consequences of life in New York’s criminal underworld. Unlike Peter, whose struggles are often rooted in balancing heroism and his personal responsibilities, Lonnie’s arc focuses on survival and loyalty—especially as he reluctantly steps into the dangerous role within the 110th gang to save his brother.

Source: Disney+

What makes Lonnie’s journey so gripping is how his life mirrors Peter’s, only through a darker, more tragic lens. While Peter has the moral compass of Spider-Man guiding him, Lonnie is stuck in a situation where he feels like he has no choice. His initial decision to join the gang to protect his brother is brave, yet it pulls him deeper into a life he never wanted. The unraveling of his once “normal” existence is portrayed with a quiet intensity, making him a character the audience can deeply empathize with.

Lonnie’s parallels with Peter are striking: both characters make tremendous sacrifices, but their paths diverge when it comes to how they handle the weight of those choices. Where Peter tries to rise above the chaos by embracing the Spider-Man persona, Lonnie becomes entangled in it. His descent into the criminal world stands in stark contrast to Peter’s climb toward heroism, and yet both are relatable and human in their motivations.

As Lonnie watches the 110th get overwhelmed, something clicks inside him. He knows that if they keep fighting head-on, they’ll be wiped out. His instincts as a former high school quarterback kick in, and he decides to make a bold play—one that could turn the tide. With adrenaline coursing through him, he assesses the chaos and makes his move, not for the fight itself, but for the objective: the Oscorp truck, which is carrying loot that could give his crew the upper hand.

Source: Disney+

Ducking and weaving, Lonnie dodges stabs and strikes with the same agility he used to evade tackles on the football field. His past athleticism becomes his greatest asset in this moment, allowing him to power through the violence surrounding him. His heart pounds as he dives toward the truck, thinking if he can seize control of the stolen Oscorp tech, he might give the 110th the edge they need to survive.

However, as he reaches the truck, things take a dangerous turn. While scrambling through the cargo, Lonnie inadvertently knocks over a case, which cracks open and releases a strange blue gas. The noxious fumes quickly engulf him, and Lonnie feels his vision blur. His limbs grow heavy as he stumbles, gasping for air. The gas is potent, almost paralyzing him on the spot. He tries to fight it, but his strength begins to wane.

Lonnie realizes this isn’t just any gas. It’s something experimental and soon enough, he swirled into this blue cloud. He steps outside just enough for him to fall over and faint, gaining Peter’s attention.

Source: Disney+

Peter momentarily gains the upper hand against The Scorpion by luring him into a well-timed trap. With a powerful surge, Peter uses a nearby distribution box to electrocute Gargan, sending a jolt of electricity coursing through his armored suit. The Scorpion lets out a pained scream as sparks fly from the damaged circuitry, momentarily stunned by the attack. Peter doesn’t waste a second—he rushes to Lonnie’s side, hoping to pull him out of the fray before things get worse.

As Peter reaches Lonnie, the effects of the blue gas seem to be taking hold. Lonnie is still groggy, his breath labored, but Peter can tell that something is happening to him. Peter grabs Lonnie, trying to help him to his feet, but before he can fully process what’s happening, a chilling sound from behind stops him cold.

The Scorpion recovers more quickly than expected. Despite the damage to his suit, Gargan’s rage makes him relentless. With a sudden lunge, he catches Peter off guard, his mechanical tail snapping out and wrapping tightly around Peter’s torso, pinning his arms to his sides. The strength of the grip is crushing, and Peter struggles to break free, his Spider-sense flaring with alarm. He twists and squirms, but Gargan’s grip is ironclad, and the situation turns dire as Peter feels the pressure increase, threatening to squeeze the life out of him.

Source: Disney+

Just as the Scorpion is about to deliver a final blow, a figure rises from the shadows—Lonnie. The blue gas still lingers around him, but something has changed. His body, though weakened just moments ago, seems to have adapted to the exposure. With a determined look in his eyes, Lonnie grips an electric staff he found among the Oscorp loot in the truck. The staff crackles with energy, the blue electricity arcing along its length. Lonnie’s hands tremble, but his resolve is clear.

At that moment, Gargan lunges forward, his tail whipping through the air with deadly precision, aiming straight for Lonnie. Peter, still regaining his strength, watches in horror, knowing that if the blow lands, it could be fatal. Time seems to slow down as the tail hurtles toward Lonnie, who stands his ground, gripping the electric staff tightly.

For a split second, Peter expects the worst. His Spider-sense screams at him to do something, but it’s too late. The sound of metal meeting flesh rings out, and a sudden, deafening silence falls over the chaotic scene. Peter’s heart races, his mind reeling at the thought of losing Lonnie right in front of him.

Source: Disney+

But the silence is not what Peter feared.

As the dust settles, Peter’s eyes widen in shock. There is no blood. No fatal blow. Instead, the emerald green tail of the Scorpion lies shattered, broken. Gargan looks just as stunned, his eyes darting between the remnants of his once-lethal weapon and the person who caused the damage.

With Great Power…

Peter and Lonnie, now working as a formidable team, manage to take down the Scorpion together. With well-timed strikes and coordination, they finally overpower Gargan, forcing him to the ground. For a brief moment, they stand victorious, catching their breath after the intense fight.

But their victory is cut brutally short.

Source: Disney+

With a desperate, final act of defiance, Gargan, still reeling from their blows, lashes out with the remains of his damaged tail. In a swing, he snaps a nearby crane’s support cables. Above them, a stack of steel beams teeters precariously, the sound of metal grinding against metal filling the air. Lonnie’s eyes widen in horror as he pushes Peter out of the way, which unfortunately causes him to be buried beneath the rubble, the weight of the steel beams pinning him to the ground.

Peter stumbles to his feet, coughing as the dust clears. His heart pounds in his chest as he frantically tries to move the debris. He desperately pulls at the beams. Peter can feel panic rising in his chest—he’s seen too many people hurt, too many lives lost. He can’t lose Lonnie, not now.

As he struggles, Peter’s mind flashes back to a conversation with Norman Osborn, a man who had once tried to manipulate him. Norman’s words echo in his mind: “Don’t hold back.” At the time, Peter had resisted Norman’s influence, afraid of the dark path he was being pushed toward. But now, in this moment of desperation, something shifts inside him.

Source: Disney+

He can feel it—the power. The raw, untapped strength that he’s always held back, the power he’s always been afraid to fully embrace. But with Lonnie’s life at stake, Peter’s fear of losing control begins to fade. The sensation is overwhelming, like a surge of electricity coursing through his veins. His muscles tense, his senses sharpen, and the world around him seems to slow down.

Peter clenches his fists, feeling the full extent of his abilities for the first time in a long time. He stands up slowly, his eyes locking onto the Scorpion, who is already limping away, trying to escape. But Peter won’t let him. Not this time.

Peter moves faster than ever before, a blur of red and blue. He catches Gargan off guard, his strikes precise and devastating. Every punch Peter lands is fueled by the rage, fear, and guilt that have been building inside him. He’s no longer holding back—he’s letting his full power loose.

Source: Disney+

Gargan, once a terrifying foe, is now powerless in the face of Peter’s unleashed fury. Peter’s webs fly out, pinning Gargan’s arms and legs, and with a brutal swing, Peter slams him into the ground. Scorpion’s helmet is knocked out.

Peter’s attacks are relentless, driven by the surge of power coursing through him. Gargan tries to fight back, but it’s no use—Peter is beyond him now, a force of nature. The god-like strength that Peter had always kept in check is fully unleashed, and Scorpion can’t stand against it.

Peter’s eyes drift toward the Scorpion’s tail. The same tail that had nearly killed Lonnie, that had caused so much destruction. His fingers twitch, his instincts pushing him to pick it up. He imagines using it—ending Gargan’s threat for good. This villain, who had terrorized so many, who had almost taken his friend’s life, didn’t deserve mercy. In this moment, Peter feels the power coursing through him, whispering that maybe Norman was right. Maybe there’s no room for restraint, not anymore.

Source: Disney+

Just as he is about to deal the final blow, Lonnie steps in front of him. Peter’s breathing steadies as he looks into Lonnie’s eyes, the rage slowly dissipating. Lonnie’s words echo the truth Peter has always known deep down, even when he’s been pushed to the brink. Spider-Man isn’t defined by his power, but by his choices. And right now, he’s standing at the same crossroads he’s been at before. It’s a a scene reminiscent of Tobey Maguire’s intervention during the climactic scene of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

Green With Envy

Norman Osborn’s transformation has always been emblematic of a gradual unmasking of his true, darker self. While his public persona as a successful businessman or influential figure might be polished, his ultimate intentions have always been sinister, cloaked behind layers power plays and deceit.

The vagueness of Osborn’s ultimate plan adds to the tension of his character. He operates with an unpredictability that keeps his adversaries, and the audience, guessing. So, while it’s always been “green”—always driven by these darker, self-serving traits—the full scope of his plan might not just be about power or revenge.

Source: Disney+

At the start, we see how Osborn mocks his former partner Otto Octavius, making a show out of the whole situation. He wryly spits in the scientist’s face with words, declaring that he was beaten. Everything that Otto had worked for, is now Oscorp’s and to a certain extent, Norman’s. Otto, of course, does not take kindly to the new status quo, and vows to enact his revenge at some point.

Meanwhile, his ultimate plan in this whole chess game is finally revealed as the pawns start moving into place. All the projects that were developed under the Orborn Internship programme were actually funded and developed so that he could power up something big – Project Monolith. Something that could be a game changer in his eyes. All of this was part of a giant plan to open a portal to the far reaches of space!

Norman spills everything to the interns and to his head scientists, some of whom were unaware of this secret project. His intentions, in his eyes, are noble, as since the arrival of Thor and the Chitauri in New York, he noted that these beings were more powerful than the inhabitants of Earth. But why should it remain that way?

Source: Disney+

Resources were vast in this universe, so why not, just take it? It echoes his words to Peter “with great power, comes great respect”. He wants the planet to be respected and not just be some playground for ‘higher beings’ to battle it out. Osborn, confident in his genius, believes that by opening this portal, he can access realms beyond comprehension and reshape the world as he sees fit.

An orange sparkly portal opens up, but it’s not Osborn’s. Indeed, out steps a familiar figure – the good doctor himself, Stephen Strange. Strange warns Osborn that opening the portal could lead to massive consequences. Norman does not heed the sorcerer’s advice, instead turning the argument against Strange for having caused destruction to Midtown High School. Strange refutes this as he claims that he has no recollection of such a battle.

Despite everything, Norman maintains his resolve and Project Monolith is turned on…

Source: Disney+

And out steps… Venom!

As the enormous alien beast—Venom, now more monstrous than ever—lashes out at the Oscorp personnel, chaos erupts within the laboratory. The symbiote’s tendrils whip through the air, smashing equipment and shutting down the portal, sending scientists and security scrambling for safety. The once-controlled environment has now turned into a battlefield of primal fury, with Venom’s monstrous form towering over everything in its path.

As the interns flee, Stephen Strange steps forward, calm but resolute amidst the chaos. His hands glow with mystic energy as he prepares to face the monstrous Venom head-on. Strange knows that this isn’t just any alien—it’s a malevolent symbiote, feeding off the anger and fear around it. His magical barriers shimmer into existence, surrounding the beast, but Venom’s strength proves formidable.

Which Came First? The Spider Or The Man?

Spider-Man arrives on the scene to assist Strange and they come up with a plan to put a stop to this fiasco. Peter starts working on getting the portal to work again and to send Venom home.

Source: Disney+

Meanwhile, Strange focuses on containing the symbiote using every spell and relic at his disposal. Magical shields, energy blasts, and protective runes swirl around the room, keeping the creature from advancing any further. Venom, however, thrashes violently, his strength growing with each passing second. It’s a relentless struggle for Strange, whose power is being tested against the symbiote’s raw force.

Robert Downey Jr Will Reportedly Earn Over RM370 Mil With Doctor Doom Role

When Strange, in desperation, attempts to use the Eye of Agamotto to turn back time and contain the escalating chaos, Venom seizes the moment. The symbiote’s tendrils wrap tightly around Strange, infecting the spell with chaos and instability. As Strange channels the Eye’s power to create a time-traveling portal, the symbiote’s interference causes the spell to go awry, warping reality in unforeseen ways.

Suddenly, both Strange and Venom are ripped through the fabric of time itself, pulled into a swirling maelstrom of chaotic temporal energy. When they emerge from the portal, they find themselves in an all-too-familiar setting—back at Midtown High, Peter Parker’s school, from what appears to be the very first episode of the series. It dawns on them that they have traveled back in time, and the realization sets in that they are the same versions of themselves who engaged in battle near the school earlier in the timeline.

Source: Disney+

This revelation warps the entire storyline, as Strange understands that he has been part of a time loop all along. The original encounter, seen at the beginning of the series, wasn’t a random battle—it was this exact moment, where future versions of themselves were thrown into the past by the Eye of Agamotto’s misfire. They’ve essentially become the architects of their own histories – and Spider-Man’s.

But things get even stranger: during the chaotic fight in the past, a bio-engineered spider—created by Oscorp—slips through the unstable portal before it closes. In a twist of fate, it’s the very same spider that ends up biting Peter Parker, giving him his spider-powers.

The paradox becomes clear—Strange and Venom’s battle, caused by their attempt to fix the present, is what led to Peter becoming Spider-Man in the first place. This creates a classic time loop: Peter’s entire journey as Spider-Man, from his origin to his battles with Venom and other villains, hinges on this moment of interference in the past.

Source: Disney+

The time paradox is set: if Strange hadn’t tried to use the Eye of Agamotto, Venom wouldn’t have influenced the spell, and they wouldn’t have gone back in time. If they hadn’t gone back in time, the spider wouldn’t have bitten Peter. And if Peter had never become Spider-Man, the events leading to the present would never have unfolded.

Ultimately, Strange and Venom return back to the present, where Venom is finally pushed back into space. However, with the portal still open, the risk of Venom returning is very apparent. As such, Spider-Man uses all of his might and strength to pull Project Monolith apart, thus securing the area from further chaos.

The battle is won.

What’s Next For Our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (& Friends)

“Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is here to stay for at least a couple more seasons but the show’s last ten minutes leave us with a ton of nuggets to process as it sets up further storylines to come.

Source: Disney+

Of course, the aftermath of the portal’s destruction leads Osborn into chaos control mode and Oscorp comes under fire for the shady work. The internship is essentially over at this point and Amadeus, Asha, Jeanne, and Peter all go their separate ways.

Peter does note that cannot fully trust Oscorp again through all the secrets and lies. Harry states that he and all the interns should just be doing their own things. Nico chimes in saying that they should just go ahead and create their own company to do better and to develop tech for good. Peter and Harry find this to be swell and as such, Harry reaches out to the rest of the interns.

Amadeus? Declined. Asha. Yea, she’s in. Jeanne? Oh, she’s working with Daredevil??? Well, it turns out she was working undercover in Oscorp this whole time and she also dons her own persona – Finesse. That explains how she was on the top floor where Peter found her. But oh yeah, she’s also in.

Source: Disney+

Meanwhile, Lonnie further descends into that life of crime seeing as there a power vacuum left by Don. But something’s more apparent now, his skin is changing. Underneath his fingers, lie the tease of his comic-accurate look. Soon, the change will be complete, and Lonnie Lincoln will no longer be just another criminal in New York City. He’ll become Tombstone, a fearsome figure with unbreakable skin, immense strength, and a reputation to match his growing power. His ties to Peter—and the fact that they were once on parallel paths—will make the coming conflict all the more personal. While Peter fights to maintain his sense of responsibility, Lonnie’s transformation into Tombstone symbolizes the opposite: the surrender to power, violence, and the criminal life.

May also makes a trip to a prison where she speaks to an inmate. But something seems strange about this one. It’s a familiar person to her. Someone that she knows. Holy! It’s Richard Parker – (played by Josh Keaton)! Peter’s dad? How come he’s alive and imprisoned? What’s he done in the past to have been incarcerated and missing from his son’s life? And does Peter know about it?

Indeed, it’s a lot to process in that last 10 minutes! Nevertheless, a follow up in the form of Season 2 has already been confirmed and when that comes swinging around, we’ll be waiting with bated breath!

“Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
