Christmas is just around the corner, which means that businesses nationwide are gearing up for the most festive time of the year. Restaurants are leading the charge with amazing gastronomic offerings and mouthwatering deals – and we began our annual yuletide food crawl with a stop at the venerable Westin Kuala Lumpur to savour its celebrated seasonal delights.
Westin KL’s gourmet epicentre – The Living Room – was beckoning to us, and we made our way through its bountiful and beloved Festive Buffet with a bounce in our step.
Appetizer
This Christmas, diners are in for a wide array of starters, which include Home-Cured Salmon Gravlax, a selection of Cold Cuts and Classic Terrine options – Pate en Croute, Turkey Loaf, Chicken Meat Loaf Beef Bresaola – assorted sushi, and more.
Intent on watching your diet during the season of feasting? Not to worry – The Living Room is the very embodiment of the brand’s commitment to wellness. The restaurant offers hydroponic salad options through its partnership with Cultiveat, with the organic salad options including Mesclun, Baby Spinach and Wild Rocket for guests to personally select, pluck and add to their salad creation. Alternatively, a Parmesan Wheel is available for diners to toss their own Caesar Salad.
Mains
The star of the buffet are the traditional festive favourites. Highlights include Yorkshire Pudding, Bavarian Hunter’s Lamb Stew, Harissa Spiced Leg of Lamb, Oven-Roasted Cajun Marinated Chicken and Roasted Prime Beef Ribs. We helped ourselves to the roasted chicken, lamb and beef – which were scrumptious! They were super tender and juicy, giving you a holiday vibe in each bite.
Of course, no Christmas feast is complete without the staple of roasted turkey. This year, The Living Room will be serving up an Oven-Roasted Orange Brine Turkey with Caramelized Vegetables and Apple Chestnut Stuffing, Parsley Potatoes, Roasted Provencal Vegetables and Brussel Sprouts, with an array of sauces – Mushroom, Cranberry, Turkey Jus, Hollandaise, English Mustard and Horseradish Sauce.
Besides the classic Christmas delights, there are also Indian and Asian cuisines, as well as a copious amount of seafood on ice – such as mussels, clams, oysters, crabs and more. There’s also pasta, burgers and assorted baked goods from Artisan Bakery.
Of course, we didn’t have the space in our tummy to savour everything, despite everything looking absolutely irresistible.
Desserts
The most important part of any gathering is definitely dessert (as far as we’re concerned). And we absolutely loved how The Living Room dedicates an entire section to sweet treats!
Christmas desserts from the pastry chefs include Emerald Chocolate Yule Log, Chocolate Cherry Cake, Golden Apple Pie, Emerald and Gold Lollipop, Gingerbread Crème Brulee, Grape Jello Streusels, Green Tea Emerald Macaroon Tower, Raspberry Pistachio Triangle, Christmas Pudding, Minced Pie, among others.
