Based on Raquel Jaramillo’s best-selling children’s novel of the same name, “Wonder” is Stephen Chbosky’s sophomore effort since his directorial debut, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, in 2012. The heartwarming film stars A-listers Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the loving parents of Jacob Tremblay’s (of “Room” fame) character, August “Auggie” Pullman.
Written by Steve Conrad (who penned “The Promotion”, “The Pursuit of Happiness”, and “The Weather Man”), “Wonder” follows Auggie, a 10-year-old kid born with facial differences who has been in and out of hospitals for years. “I’ve had 27 surgeries. They help me to breathe, to see, to hear without a hearing aid. But none of them have made me look ordinary,” says Auggie in the trailer (above).
With the help of his mother, Isabel (played by Julia Roberts) and his father, Nate (played by Owen Wilson), he tries to fit in at a new public school. As his new classmates and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
Slated for release 17th November 2017, “Wonder” also stars Mandy Patinkin and Daveed Diggs.
