Woman During Her 2nd Vaccine: “I Was With My Husband For The 1st, Now I’m Alone With His Death Certificate.”

Covid-19 cases are rapidly on the rise in Malaysia. After cracking the 200-mark of Covid-19 casualties for two days in a row (26th July and 27th July), the number of cases dropped to 143 individuals yesterday (28th July). The Ministry of Health remarked that Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll stood at 8,551.

The situation has become more alarming since the emergence of the highly infectious Delta variant of the Coronavirus. Malaysia has been maintaining its momentum in administering the vaccine doses as an ongoing initiative to curb the spread of the virus. A total of 553,871 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday (27th July) and out of this, 356,112 people have received their first dose while 197,759 people received their second dose.

Despite the increasing number of vaccination rates, the post-vaccination infections have also generated concern among citizens that this new variant has developed to resist the effectiveness of the vaccines. Many stories were told on social media, whereby people lost their family members against the deadly virus despite receiving their vaccination doses.

One of the stories was shared by Twitter user @hanimomo a few days ago. In the caption, she shared how her friend lost her husband and her mother in a short period of time.

She even went to get her second dose of vaccination alone without her husband this time. “My friend uploaded her pic of second vaccination. Her caption: I was with my husband for the first, now I’m alone with his death certificate for my second jab,” the user wrote.

The tweet has garnered netizens support and many sympathise with her story and expressed their condolences. Under her post, some netizens also shared their experiences dealing with the same situation. “I have a college mate who died due to Covid-19. The wife lost her mom on the 1st day of Raya, and he died about two weeks later. So many sad stories,” remarked one netizen.

We are currently in a race between the virus and getting vaccinations to curb the virus. It is important for us to be fully vaccinated so that our immune system can fight the virus even if we are exposed to it. The highest efficacy rate of the vaccine was reported to be about 95 percent and that is enough to prevent us from the deadly impact of Covid-19.

So, Malaysians, let us do our part in getting vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity. There are just too many deaths and devastation, we don’t need more of it.
