Not every fan was thrilled when Robert Downey Jr. was announced to play the iconic Doctor Doom in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”, as it seemed to lessen the impact of his departure as Iron Man. Still, many remain hopeful that the film will deliver a compelling story, given how Marvel Studios has carefully shifted direction and taken their time to produce higher-quality films compared with those released shortly after “Avengers: Endgame”.
“Thunderbolts”, “The Marvels”, and “Fantastic Four: First Steps” are among the more recent releases that have convinced fans that both storytelling and visual effects are improving, further heightening anticipation for “Doomsday”. Now, with many of the cast confirmed to reprise their roles, the question is: who else is rumoured to be returning? Let’s find out:
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America

Earlier today (Tuesday, 16th December), a teaser of “Avengers: Doomsday” was reportedly leaked online, featuring footage that suggested Chris Evans may be reprising his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America. However, with the rise of AI-generated content, it is suspected that the viral clips may not be genuine. Nevertheless, fans reacted strongly to the possibility of Evans returning, with some opposing the idea, given that Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, is now established as the new Captain America.
Bringing Steve back could overshadow Sam Wilson’s role as the leader of the Avengers. Still, with the concept of the Multiverse now part of the MCU, Chris Evans’ appearance might be limited to a brief cameo, playing a completely different character. Guess we’ll find out when Marvel Studios officially releases the full cast list, or wait for it to be a surprise once the film premieres next year.
Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool

Deadpool has been widely rumoured to make an appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday”. The iconic, fourth-wall-breaking character would bring plenty of humour to the story, but although there have been hints of his involvement, nothing has been officially confirmed. That said, it would be entirely in character if we saw teasers from Deadpool himself promoting his appearance or jokingly campaigning to be included—a gag that could tie in perfectly with the next Deadpool film.
Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen has expressed interest in reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, but she emphasised that her character’s return would need to be cleverly justified, following her apparent death at the end of “Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.” So far, there has been only speculation about whether Wanda might return from the dead or appear as a variant from a different universe. With nothing confirmed, fans continue to hope that the powerful chaos-magic wielder will make her mark in the upcoming new era of MCU projects.
Who do you want to see in “Avengers: Doomsday” or the follow-up “Avengers: Secret Wars”?
