WhatsApp Announces Cross Platform Chat History Transfer Feature

Science and technology has indeed developed at a fast rate, causing daily tasks to get easier every day. Everything could be done with a tap on one’s phone screen — this includes changing the temperature of the room’s air conditioning too, with the use of some smartphones! However, if there’s one mystery that has never been resolved, it would be the transfer of WhatsApp chats from Android phones to iOS phones. This has indeed left many potential iPhone users into a dilemma of changing their Android phones! It is indeed a pity if you end up losing precious chats and photos sent over via the popular text messaging application, with your friends and family.

Now, a latest update from WhatsApp could put one’s worries at bay! Apparently, it’s been in the works for a while but WhatsApp has officially announced that users would be able to transfer their chat history between iOS phones and Android phones. Despite this good news, it should be noted that the feature would not be made available for the general masses. Currently, WhatsApp users could transfer their chat history from iOS to Android phones and the new feature of doing it vice versa would only be made available to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip 3 users. After that, this feature would be rolled out to other Samsung users with Android 10 or higher in the upcoming weeks!

Albeit the fact that this might make your life easier, the transfer process is indeed tedious. Being an indirect procedure, this requires an offline process that requires the usage of Lightning to USB-C-cable. This was actually noted by WABetaInfo — being based of a recent beta build made for Android phones.

There is no definite timeline for the rollout of this incredible and possibly, life-saving feature for other Android devices and the same would apply for the ability to transfer the chat history from Android to iOS. With many questions left unanswered by the Facebook owned company, it is safe to say that this might take a while to come into use by the general public.

Nevertheless, this new modification, might allow a lot of us to breathe a sigh of relief but, we might not know the practicality of it as well as the system requirements that would enable the transfer. Let’s just keep an eye out for more tech related news in the upcoming weeks to discover new explanations from WhatsApp regarding this feature.
