We’re Crushing Hard On The New Versace Mercury Sneaker!

Versace unveils its latest footwear innovation with the launch of the Versace Mercury unisex sneaker collection. Crafted from premium calf leather and unified by a single sole, the three iterations comprising the ‘Versace Mercury’ design family exude futurism and symbolise versatility. Every edition within the collection underscores Versace’s dedication to pioneering artisanal techniques.

As a result, the Versace Mercury sneaker is not just a shoe; it’s a future artefact. The full Versace Mercury sneaker collection, including special editions, will be available in limited numbers on 4th June at Versace.com and select boutiques worldwide, and will follow a wider release at a later date.

The Versace Mercury Was Created As…

A Future Artefact

As a testament to innovative craftsmanship, the Versace Mercury harmoniously blends futuristic advancements with the timeless sophistication of the House’s heritage. The sci-fi-influenced design conceals a complex structure, consisting of 86 meticulously crafted components that are seamlessly cut and stitched together, of which the upper and lining alone consist of 30 pieces per pair, thereby creating a cocoon of comfort, protection, and support.

The Versace Mercury echoes the agility, adaptability, and bold style of the Classical god Mercury, inspiring wearers to embark on a transformative journey. Integrating elements from various footwear styles, it transcends the ordinary to embrace the extraordinary. Beyond its mythological roots, the sneaker represents an exploration into the unknown, as symbolised in the campaign’s play in shadows, blending celestial inspiration with otherworldly techniques. Its silhouette and textured details, mimicking sting-ray leather, pay homage to some of Versace’s most iconic motifs, while signifying metamorphosis for seamless day-to-night transitions.

A Symbol Of Connection

At the heart of the Versace Mercury lies the spirit of connection, transcending both time and space. The intricately woven ropes and the iconic Greca detailing are not just design elements; they symbolise unity, seamlessly bridging the past and the future, linking tradition with innovation, and blending the familiar with the unforeseen.

This theme echoes Versace’s heritage, from the symbolic use of ropes in the ‘80s and ‘90s advertisements — representing ties between people, places, and times — to the ensemble photos that have defined Versace, showcasing strength and community among confident individuals. Yet this nod to the origins is reimagined to resonate with the modern lives and styles of today’s wearers, ensuring the notion of connection remains relevant and forward-thinking.

A True Testament Of Craft

Each Versace Mercury sneaker embodies Versace’s dedication to superior craftsmanship. Artisans skillfully hand-weave 16 metres of crochet rope into every pair, dedicating three hours to the weaving and application process. The design features distinctive zig zag roping, 30 precisely stitched components for the upper and lining per pair, and represents a labour of love and a testament to enduring artistry.

Its upper boasts handmade woven lace, a focal point of dynamic design. The new EVA sole, adorned with the House’s Greca pattern and hand-painted interior, ensures both comfort and lightweight construction.

The shoe’s design drives recognition with subtle and understated branding. Personalization details include metal Versace lettering on the metal-plated heel, subtle Versace lettering on the tongue and eyelets, and a ribbon featuring the Greca motif in tonal jacquard. Notably, for the first time, the style code, country of manufacture, and size scales are printed inside the tongue. A team of 27 craftspeople collaboratively assemble all elements with great care, creating a fully ‘Made-in-Italy’ shoe that speaks to the soul of Versace and captures the essence of the House’s storied legacy.

The collection expands with the Versace Mercury crew sock, designed to complement the sneaker’s look.
