Netizen Claims Wedding Ang Pao Should Be RM300+; Others Argue That It’s Not A Business Transaction

Who doesn’t love weddings? It’s a great time to celebrate your friends and family members marrying the love of their lives. Of course, to commemorate the affair, people will offer wedding gifts. Most of the time, its easier to gift couples a cash gift as they can easily use the money for their own needs.

Unfortunately, a netizen recently sparked an argument about just how much should be given. They claimed that if guests don’t give more than RM300, they shouldn’t bother coming. Needless to say, most netizens weren’t happy.

The post first popped up in Facebook group KL娱乐站 a few days ago. There, a netizen had decided to share a revelation they had from their cousin’s recent wedding. Apparently, their cousin had paid RM2200 per banquet table, but wine and water were not included.

They added that most of their guests only gave RM150 to RM180 as wedding gifts, which in his opinion, wasn’t enough. “Everything is expensive now,” the netizen reprimanded. “If you can’t (give) more than RM300, don’t accept invitations from others and don’t make them lose money.”

Clearly, other netizens didn’t share their views. One pointed out that this was a wedding not a business transaction. “(Weddings) are once in a lifetime. The purpose is to (celebrate it) with people you treasure,” they stated. “If you treat it as a business transaction, then don’t do it. It will only bring trouble and loss.”

Others stated there was no need to treat guests beyond their financial means. “If you don’t have the means, don’t (do) a wedding,” a comment read. Another claimed that how much a guest gives is a personal choice. “(The gift amount) doesn’t matter,” one stated. “Take this as a lesson. Please be cheaper next time.”

It’s easy to forget others and focus on ourselves, especially when it’s our special day. But regardless, we should still remember that everyone has different circumstances in life. Hopefully this netizen would be more understanding of others in the future!
