Once is a coincidence, twice is a pattern. And that certainly says something for celebrity couple actress Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) and singer Wang Feng (汪峰) who just confirmed their divorce today (23rd October) after paparazzi recently reiterated the claim.
Just last month, paparazzi alleged celebrity couple Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng’s marriage was on the ropes, a claim which left many doubtful despite others having expressed such sentiments before. However, with their latest confirmation of the divorce, there seems to be no denying it now.
Just recently, another netizen 推理君江小宴 well-known for paparazzi news announced their divorce on Weibo. “According to (sources), Wang Feng and Zhang Ziyi are indeed divorced. Their daughter (will be with) Wang Feng and their son (will go with) Zhang Zhiyi,” they wrote. There were also claims their shared property of 3.5 billion yuan (~RM2.2 billion) will be divided between the two.
Although some netizens are still on the fence about it, several are starting to be more convinced. Especially since Hong Kong media claimed Wang Feng’s staff has refused to comment on the issue. Reportedly, the staff hung up on them immediately after hearing the reporter’s intention.
The rumour has set netizens abuzz, with several pointing out the couple’s recent lack of photos and online interaction together. A netizen’s vague comment on the issue, saying: “A man was caught re-handed having sex with a young model, (so) divorce is necessary“, has added more oil to the fire as many claim this is the reason the couple is divorcing.
Well, while rumours of the reason for the divorce have remained unaddressed, both Wang Feng and Zhang Ziyi have released a joint statement regarding the issue. “After eight years of marriage and careful consideration and discussion, we decided to dissolve our marriage,” their statement reads. The couple have announced that they will still be co-parenting their children together.
“We’ve had a wonderful marriage together. In the past eight years, we have taken care of our family, raised our children, and built a happy life (filled) with love,” they reassured. “There is no debate about right and wrong between us, and (the) separation does not mean betrayal. This is a decision made by two adults together, and (we) hope we can get your understanding and support.”
Wang Feng and Zhang Ziyi have also clarified that the statement is meant to protect their kids and families from any potential lash back from the public. They have also firmly stated that they will not be responding to the matter further.
To date, the couple has been together for over eight years after tying the knot in 2015. Zhang Ziyi reportedly had her daughter after marrying Wang Feng, and later gave birth to her son in 2020.
Still, while some are condemning the couple, others are wishing them well regardless of their decision. As several have opined, they merely hope the choice will make both of them happy, despite public opinions.
