If you’re planning a Genting Highlands trip next year, you might need to start paying a bit extra because a new toll is supposedly in the works.
Facebook user Vincent Chow recently posted two photos in the Facebook group, ‘Eat Sleep Touge (Chat & Chill)’. His photos show what looks to be a toll gantry being constructed near Genting Highlands. According to a news outlet, the photos were taken near the big Gohtong Jaya roundabout, going through towards Batang Kali.
Vincent’s Facebook post mentioned that the toll might cost RM2.50 to RM3.50. However, it seems that neither the toll nor the cost is the government’s decision because the road leading towards Genting Highlands is private property. While Genting has yet to confirm the news, an insider has shared with the news outlet that there were talks about charging a toll to cover road maintenance costs and other expenses.
If the rumours are true, the toll will begin operations in June next year and, as mentioned before, will cost up to RM3.50. However, it seems that visitors will only be charged when they go up to Genting Highlands and not when they come down.
Netizens have also reacted to the supposed new Genting toll, sharing mixed opinions. While some said the toll would make them reconsider going up to the popular tourist destination, others approved of the toll if it meant getting smoother roads. However, some are still sceptical about the possibility of a Genting toll, saying that the company wouldn’t enact one because it could deter potential visitors.
