Another week, another whirlwind of totally EXTRA events!

We went face-to-face with L’Oréal, had recess at Cheongdam International High School, tasted “beauty” with lilybyred, found our groove at Simply Retro, and MORE! We were THERE, and we were vibing like a boss! Check out our social diary for this past week (don’t be jelly!):

NusaFest 2023 Headliners Announcement

Calling all avid festivalgoers out there! The premier local arts and music festival, NusaFest, is coming back – bigger, bolder and stronger than ever! We were there when NusaFest announced that it’s bringing top and legendary names in the local music industry as the main attractions of the two-day event, which will be happening on 8th and 9th July. For those who are curious, NusaFest 2023 will be headlined by not one, not two, but THREE local bands: Search, Wings and Butterfingers!

L’Oréal Groupe’s ‘Create Beauty’

L’Oréal Malaysia hosted its first-ever corporate showcase – and we were so excited to be a part of it! With a mission to Create The Beauty That Moves The World, L’Oréal believes in and advocates for beauty to be inclusive, diverse, empowering, and responsible.

The event venue was brimming with so many pop-up booths of different beauty brands under L’Oréal Malaysia. But the highlight was L’Oréal Beauty Tech. In a fast-paced, changing world, all industries are being transformed by tech, and the beauty business is no exception. From AI-powered skincare solutions, to personalized makeup devices, to new codes of beauty – L’Oréal is a beauty tech powerhouse.

We also learned that L’Oréal Malaysia’s initiatives include heeding the government’s call for an industry partnership to resolve graduates’ skill-mismatch. Towards that end, it signed a five-year MoU with the Ministry of Education through its Technical Vocational Education and Training Division (TVET, or BPLTV in Malay). The MoU will see L’Oréal Malaysia and TVET working together to introduce various initiatives for the 17 national vocational colleges specialising in cosmetology, with the aim of ‘future-proofing’ cosmetology students for the job market through training and upskilling, facilitation of knowledge transfers, as well as providing opportunities for industry exposure.

‘Cheongdam International High School’ PC

The two main leads of “Cheongdam International High School”, Lee Eun Saem and Yeri from Red Velvet, were in town to promote the high school suspense K-drama ahead of its series finale, last week. The stars spent a fun-filled afternoon with local fans at Sunway Pyramid during the first round of their promotional tour. Fans flocked to the shopping mall and waited in line for the event since early morning to catch a glimpse of the stars. During the event, Eun Saem and Yeri also engaged in several interesting activities, apart from snapping pictures with a few lucky fans.

Following the event, Eun Saem and Yeri met up with members of the media, with whom they shared more about their filming experiences and the challenges they encountered in the process. Aside from expressing their excitement over coming to Malaysia and greeting their fans in person, the duo also expressed their gratitude to the fans for their warm welcome and overwhelming support.

Nihon Matsuri 2023

We got to immerse ourselves in the vibrant and enchanting festivities at Nihon Matsuri 2023! After a successful start last year, the festival is back again with even more lively activities and attractions. During our visit, we checked out a cosplay competition where anime and manga fans showed off their incredible costumes, and watched an exciting street dance performance at the event’s recreated Shibuya Crossing. 

The highlight of the event was an unforgettable live-cutting demonstration of a large bluefin tuna done by a professional Japanese chef. With all the incredible decor and booths of traditional Japanese food, games and even crafts, we felt like we stepped right into the heart of Japan!

Bobbi Brown’s ‘Confident Beauty, Powered By You’

Last week, we got to experience Bobbi Brown’s “Confident Beauty, Powered By You” event @ BETA KL, and it was a blast! They showcased their most iconic products, such as their Intensive Serum Foundation, Vitamin Enriched Face Base, and their Luxe Lipstick line! With the brand’s mantra, “Confident Beauty, Powered by You,” the event captured Bobbi Brown’s stance on the value of feeling confident and beautiful in your own skin as you evolve into the person that you aspire to be.

Simply Retro Opening Night

We were invited to the debut of Simply Retro @Publika! Simply Retro is a vinyl-based club and restaurant that features live DJ performances by resident DJs Jason Martin, JazzieJay, Bernie, and Francis K. From Wednesday through Saturday, these seasoned DJs will be spinning great hits from the ’80s and ’90s from the club’s enormous vinyl collection.

Tin Box Group is a multi-concept lifestyle brand that develops, owns, and operates a growing portfolio of live entertainment venues and restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia, including Simply Live by Tin Box, Simply Jazz by Tin Box, and Simply Comedy by Tin Box x Harith Iskander in Kuala Lumpur.

ELEMIS London’s Skincare Pop-Up

We had the chance to see British anti-ageing skincare brand, ELEMIS London, up close and personal at their pop-up store in Mid Valley Megamall, this week. The venue was surrounded by a beautiful blue garden, where we had our skin examined using the brand’s advanced system, and learnt more of about its condition and how to improve it. We were also treated to a sneak peek of their non-invasive facial treatment, which involves no needles of any kind! It was truly fun and insightful!

Lilybyred Cosmetics X Crème De La Crème’s Collab

We checked out Lilybyred’s delicious new collaboration with dessert brand, Crème De La Crème (CDLC). The launch was held at CDLC Damansara Uptown and officiated by Mandom Malaysia sales general manager, Caryn Tan; CDLC founder, Lio Lim; and Guardian Malaysia general manager, Tiffany Choo. The partnership includes new, limited-edition ice cream flavours and desserts inspired by Lilybyred’s line of lip tints. Guests at the launch were able to treat themselves to all the new sweet treats – and there was even a shoutout from Lilybyred’s ambassador, K-pop starlet, YENA!
