Orange cats, affectionately referred to by Malaysians as oyen, never ceased to amuse us with their cute and quirky antics. While many oyens have gone viral, none are as popular as the Oyen that hangs out with capybaras at Zoo Negara.

The orange tabby cat went viral earlier this year after a zoo visitor posted a video of it comfortably hanging out in the capybara enclosure. According to zoo staff members, the cat is believed to be orphaned and had likely begun living with the capybaras during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Haaa oyen pun dah ada signage sendiri 🔥 Mungkin next Roren kita pulak? Korang belum kenal Roren kan 😉 #oyen #oyenbarbar #masbro #capybara #zoonegara #zoonegaramalaysia #zoonegaramalaysia2023

Seeing how much love the cat had received from the public, it wasn’t surprising to hear that Zoo Negara had officially accepted the tabby as a part of the capybara enclosure. The joyous news was announced through a video on Zoo Negara’s official TikTok account, which shows that Oyen is now officially a permanent resident and a tourist attraction at the zoo.

The video shows that Oyen now has its own signage at the enclosure, hung underneath the signage of its Capybara friends. The video also showed the cat hanging out and enjoying a pleasant mealtime with its herbivorous housemates.

Of course, netizens were excited to hear the orange cat officially joining the capybaras enclosure and shared their joy over the news. Many celebrated Oyen finally being acknowledged by the zoo, while others joked that the cat received a permanent job. Some netizens also wondered if the orange cat had met up with its distant relative, the tiger.

We’re glad the orange kitty is an official addition to the family – and if you’re ever in Zoo Negara, don’t forget to say hi to Oyen and its Capybara pals.
