Giving minors the opportunity to rise to fame is nothing new in the entertainment industry, and the K-pop scene is perhaps the most notable for embracing this trend. On the evening of 15th June 2025 (Sunday), YG Entertainment unveiled the second member of their forthcoming girl group, currently referred to as YG NEXT MONSTER: Chanya (찬야).

According to YG’s executive producer Yang Hyun Suk (양현석), the group will consist of four members, each introduced through a solo performance, mirroring the debut strategy used for their senior group, BABYMONSTER (베이비몬스터). Since the reveal of the first member, Evelli (이벨리), last May, netizens have eagerly awaited the introduction of the remaining members.

In her solo performance, Chanya showcased her impressive vocal range by singing “the grudge” by Olivia Rodrigo. At the end of the video, her profile confirmed her position as a vocalist in the group. Many netizens expressed surprise when they learned she’s from Thailand, pointing out how more K-pop groups continue to discover standout talents from the country, like Lisa (리사), Pharita (파리타), and Chiquita (치키타).

Like her fellow member, Chanya’s introduction video reached a million views within hours. Netizens have shared their excitement and amazement at Chanya’s talent, especially considering her young age. Some even compared her voice to her BABYMONSTER senior Rora (로라), praising the beauty of her voice.

While excitement continues to build around the group, many fans have raised concerns about the girls’ ages. Although rumours suggest a 2027 debut, some believe the members are still too young to step onto the stage, especially considering the type of audience they may attract. Others worry that fame could come at the cost of their childhoods.

Even so, anticipation remains high. Fans are eager to see what the remaining members will bring, and netizens already have high expectations for Chanya, believing she will shine just as brightly as her seniors. What are your thoughts on Chanya?
