Fashion is one of the creative outlets for many to express themselves as it is the most visible way to showcase one’s personality. With that being said though, there is a time and place for everything and just because one has the right to wear what they want, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s appropriate for every occasion.
Most universities would allow students to wear whatever they want as long as they adhere to the dress code of the institution. This young student, unfortunately, received a lot of backlash for his very revealing outfit.

On Friday (24th November), a video was posted of a male university student with red hair in a lecture hall wearing, what appears to be, a laced-up backless white shirt that showed much of his bare skin from behind. There is currently no information on who the original poster was so there are no answers as to why the young man chose to wear the revealing outfit to class.
The video circulated all over social media with many criticising the student for wearing the provocative attire. Some said that while they support the student expressing himself through fashion, they believe that there is still a time and place for everything and that the outfit worn was not appropriate for class.
Although it was not necessarily surprising, there were many netizens who left malicious comments saying that they would beat up the student or any male if they were to see them in public wearing a similar outfit. Thankfully, not all comments were bad. Influencer Ceddy Ang joked that he thought it was him in the video since he used to rock the same hair colour and style last year. “Whatever it is, slay, boy, slay!!” he wrote.

At the time of writing, there have been no updates if the student has spoken up about the backlash he received. There was also no mention of which university this incident took place at but one netizen speculated that it was the Tun Hussein Onn University of Malaysia (UTHM). This information, however, has yet to be verified.
Personally, we admire the young man’s boldness to express himself through the outfit he wore but we agree that most people wouldn’t dare to do the same in a lecture hall. What do you think of his attire? Was it too much?
