We love it when our favourite celebs get candid during interviews. Malaysian-born comedian Nigel Ng, aka Uncle Roger, appeared as a guest on the latest episode of Studio Sembang, hosted by actress Amelia Henderson.
At one point during the conversation, the entrepreneur opened up about his ex-wife, who has been the inspiration behind the character Auntie Helen (Nigel’s ex-wife). Here’s what he said:

Long before Nigel Ng met his current fiancée, he was married to a European woman. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last because, according to the comedian, he was too career-driven at the time. “I was doing a full-time job as well as stand-up, so I was always home late at night. I had no work-life balance,” he said.
When Covid-19 hit, the celeb started his podcast shortly after his divorce. “I was trying to replace something in my life. She missed out big time. She left, and then a year later, Uncle Roger blew up, so it’s her loss,” the comedian quipped. When asked about the character Auntie Helen, who was inspired by his ex-wife, Nigel said he just wanted to make relatable jokes about divorce but wouldn’t touch much on the actual marriage itself.

“I just wanted to create this character for Uncle Roger because, to me, it’s funny to make fun of divorce. However, there are a lot of personal things I wouldn’t go into. I keep it light-hearted and avoid talking about the deeper stuff, like why the marriage broke down and such,” he explained.
Aside from his marriage, both the 33-year-old and the host shared their experiences of receiving lewd DMs and explicit photos from men. For Nigel, although he doesn’t mind the admiration, he opts not to acknowledge nor respond to those creepy men. “I don’t check my DMs anymore. My poor producer and brand manager, scroll through, probably saw a lot of lewd photos,” said the business owner.
