It’s no secret that Malaysians love compliments about our country from foreigners and we aren’t shy to admit it! Whether it be comparing our variety of cuisines or the oden station in Family Mart it’s no tell-tale that we get excited whenever a foreigner mentions their experiences in Malaysia, especially when they come and experience the country for themselves!

Dana Wang, a travel creator on TikTok recently posted about her experience travelling to Malaysia and rather than talking about the food or our Malaysian hospitality, she is shocked by the cleanliness of our public transport! In the video, she compares our MRT lines to the ones in America stating how it “puts the U.S. ones to shame”.

Dana further went on to praise the condition of our MRT lines by mentioning, “The stations are so pristine, you can see the reflection on the floor cause it is just that clean”. Further enhancing her experience, she mentioned the availability of a women-only coach where women are able to sit comfortably.

Malaysian netizens were quick to comment on their personal comparisons. TikTok user (@/kyo) commented, “I’ve taken the New York subway, London tube, Paris Metro, Bangkok BTS, Singapore MRT and let me just say, for me, Malaysia MRT is the second best after Tokyo Shinkansen/Metro. That says A LOT”. Some netizens have also taken to gatekeeping this treasure by stating that the video is AI-rendered. TikTok user (@/abu) comments, “This is rendered. Do Not trust AI nowadays, as Malaysians we still do not have any access to the Internet”.

Have you taken the MRT/LRT lines recently? If not, try hopping on one to experience the cleanliness of our public transports for yourself!  Keeping our public transportation clean is a necessary shared responsibility that we must take up as proud Malaysians.
