The most important thing in food preparation is hygiene. Unfortunately, many restaurants have been shamed for disregarding hygiene standards – like when the employee at a Klang restaurant had washed dishes in a trash bin.

Recently, a customer spotted a Johor sushi restaurant employee picking at his ears while preparing food. The incident occurred at a Sushi Mentai outlet in Taman Gaya in Johor Bahru. In the video shared in a Facebook group, the employee was handling food without any gloves on and, at the same time, playing with his phone. In addition, at one point in the video, the employee was also caught digging his ears while standing in front of the food prep line.

In the video, the customer was lamenting about the employee’s disgusting actions, pointing out that the employee was standing right in front of food meant for the customers. The video garnered attention from netizens who shared their shock at the scene. Many complained about the restaurant employee’s lack of concern for food safety and hygiene. However, some Sushi Mentai customers noted that the particular outlet is notorious for being unhygienic and having terrible customer service.

Sushi Mentai has also responded to the video, apologising to the customer for their employee’s actions. The sushi restaurant also added that they will be investigating the matter but have yet to address the issue in a public statement. It is unknown whether Sushi Mentai will take action towards the employee in the video. However, some netizens were sceptical about the restaurant’s response, adding that they would most likely offer vouchers and continue operations, pretending nothing happened.

As food safety is a serious matter, we hope Sushi Mentai and the Taman Gaya branch will take the appropriate action to ensure this issue doesn’t happen again.
