If you spend a lot of time on the road, chances are that you’ve come across peddlers selling fruits at the traffic light in many states. Despite the concerning nature surrounding the job, in addition to continuous warnings from the authorities, they still refuse to budge an inch.

Recently, a video posted by Johor’s Police Traffic Department (JPST) went viral on Facebook. The clip shows a fruit seller running away immediately after realising the police had their sights set on him. The incident reportedly took place while he was selling fruits near a traffic light in Johor Bahru.

“He ran away when he saw us without taking into account his safety, and other road users’ (safety) while crossing the road,” the caption read. “They are aware of this and should feel guilty because we have given them several chances. The act of selling fruits on the street is clearly against the law.” In the same post, they also shared another similar incident that took place just outside Angsana Mall in JB. The post in turn was met with mixed remarks from netizens.

Some agreed with what the police asserted about the situation. They also called for the authorities to continue monitoring the situation, apart from taking stern action against those who go against the law. On the other hand, there were also some who argued that the police should give these sellers some leniency because they are simply trying to earn themselves some money without hurting others.
