Not everyone can share what it’s like to be in a prison overseas. However, Malaysian singer Eda Ezrin recently revealed her experience spending nine months in custody at the Narathiwat Prison in Thailand for drug possession charges.
Late last week, Eda held a TikTok live stream to share her experience of being in the Narathiwat Prison in Thailand. For those unaware, the Kelantanese singer was arrested by Thai police in November 2024 after authorities found her and five other Malaysians in possession of 6,059 methamphetamine pills at a hotel in Thailand. The group, which included Eda and her husband, later faced charges of possession with intent to distribute and drug consumption.

After multiple extensions of detention, the group spent more than nine months in custody. Eda, her husband, and the others were released on 6th August 2025 (Wednesday). However, it’s worth noting that the singer and the others never received a sentence for the case, and the court dropped the charges due to insufficient evidence. Since her release from custody, Eda has returned to social media, sharing about her experiences.
In the TikTok live stream, Eda answered a few questions about life in prison. The 30-year-old revealed that the Thai prison allows detainees to purchase food and toiletries, including perfume and toothbrushes, through the commissary as long as they have money in their account. As for where she stayed, the singer said she was in a room with 50 other inmates, including her friends.

Eda said the living conditions were comfortable as there were televisions and fans in the room. She said, “We were treated well by the prison management and were allowed to carry out various activities.” However, the mother-of-three said she was heartbroken that she had to be separated from her family, especially since her detention was during the month of Ramadan and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.
In the comments, many netizens shared words of encouragement for the star, hoping to see her return to music after the incident. However, some also lamented that Eda seemed to be glorifying her prison experience. Regardless, we wish Eda all the best and hope she’ll use her experience to become a better person.
