The stormy weather has not only caused flash floods in certain Klang Valley areas but also electrical malfunctions. Being stuck in a confined space is scary enough but imagine being stuck in a lift where water starts pouring down on you. This is something we’d imagine seeing in a horror/survival movie and unfortunately, this family had to experience that.

On Sunday (5th November), a netizen who goes by Andy or @theandyands on TikTok posted a video of a terrifying ordeal that she and her family went through at Subang Parade shopping centre. As seen in the video posted, the family was stuck in a lift where flood water could be seen pouring down from the ceiling.

@theandyands

My family and I, along with a few others were caught up in this terrifying setting at Subang Parade yesterday. Imagine being trapped in the lift for a few minutes while rain water poured all over you. It make sense if the basement car park or even the mall were flooded, but inside the lift? What the hell is that?!! I hope @Subang Parade management takes action and properly maintains their mall. #subangparade #subang #banjir #flooded #stuckinlift #raining #monsoonseason #shitshow #sunday #horrifyingexperience #emergency

A child was seen crying out of fear from the traumatising situation but luckily, the door managed to be pried open and everyone slowly made their out through the narrow exit. The video then showed the basement parking lot flooded and water was also seen pouring out of the pipes around the building structure.

“My family and I, along with a few others were caught up in this terrifying setting at Subang Parade yesterday. Imagine being trapped in the lift for a few minutes while rainwater poured all over you. It makes sense if the basement parking lot or even the mall itself was flooded. But inside the lift?! What the hell is that?!! I hope Subang Parade management takes action and improves their maintenance,” she wrote.

The post garnered a lot of attention from netizens who were very concerned for the safety of the shoppers that day. Some expressed their sympathy for the scared family in the video while others shared similar incidents they had of being stuck in a lift at the same shopping centre with one claiming that they were stuck for 30 minutes.

It was then reported that the entire mall had been flooded by the heavy storm outside. Photos were posted of the affected areas with one showing that the lowest level of the basement parking lot was almost completely submerged in water. Subang Parade posted a statement the following day to address the situation.

“While this incident has undeniably caused disruptions, please rest assured that your safety and well-being remain our utmost concern. Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries, and our dedicated team is diligently working to minimize disruptions and expedite the restoration of Subang Parade to get stores back to business as quickly as possible. We acknowledge that this situation may have inconvenienced your shopping experience, and for that, we extend our sincere apologies,” the company wrote.

We’re glad that everyone is safe and let’s hope that Subang Parade will improve their facilities and building structures so that shoppers won’t have to face another terrifying ordeal such as this.
