Affordable housing programs like RUMAWIP and FTMH aim to provide comfortable and quality residences at an affordable price. While the scheme does have its benefits, residents can only enjoy them if the project is complete.

Twitter user Fiq Ahmad recently tweeted about a public housing project that has been abandoned for years, leaving the buyers frustrated. The project in question is the Residensi Hektar Gombak in Kuala Lumpur. In his tweet, Fiq revealed that the project, developed by Hektar Aneka Sdn Bhd, has yet to be completed despite buyers paying a full instalment since December 2022.

According to a local news outlet, the developer has abandoned the project for almost five years. The project began development in 2017 and was scheduled to complete in 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was delayed without a definite completion date. The project comprises five blocks with 2,400 units and is built on a Malay reserve land measuring 7.85 hectares. It was reported that all 2,400 units were sold to mostly B40 and M40 buyers.

One buyer named Siti Suhaila also shared her experience on TikTok, lamenting about the project’s status. Siti, who bought a unit in 2018, said she should’ve received her keys in 2022, with the latest being May 2023, but instead, she has to continue waiting. Siti also said the building looks almost complete, so it’s a shame that it was abandoned at this stage. She also revealed that she has been paying RM1,500 monthly since 2020 for the home, on top of another RM1,000 to rent out another place.

Besides Siti, other buyers of Residensi Hektar Gombak have voiced their frustration through multiple channels. Many have even sought legal assistance and reached out to politicians but to no avail. As of now, the buyers are urging the public to share their stories, hoping it can help bring awareness to those affected by the abandoned project.

We hope the developer of Residensi Hektar Gombak will take responsibility for causing years of frustration to these 2,400 homeowners.
