One of the most appreciated and widely used public transportation systems in Malaysia is the KTM Komuter, operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu. This commuter rail service covers routes around the Klang Valley suburbs as well as northern regions of Malaysia. It seems even foreigners are fond of the KTM service, as a post by a British tourist went viral last month, praising the commuter trains.

However, unexpected incidents can still occur onboard. Earlier this week (Wednesday, 30th October), a video surfaced of a KTM commuter train with one of its doors wide open while the train was still in motion. The clip, posted on Facebook by user Soloman Tan, quickly went viral, with the explanation that the train was travelling from Butterworth to Padang Besar station.

In the now-viral video, the train was seen moving at its normal operating speed with one of its doors wide open, as a concerned passenger tried to close it by pressing the buttons near the open doorway. Meanwhile, other commuters appeared unfazed by the incident, wisely keeping their distance from the scene.

In the comments under the post, Solomon elaborated on the situation, explaining that the doors had been functioning correctly when he first boarded the train at Butterworth station. However, upon reaching Bukit Tengah, the doors unexpectedly remained open. “When I arrived at Bukit Mertajam station, I immediately went to the ticket counter to inform the female ticketing officer about the issue,” he further clarified.

In response to the incident, KTM Berhad issued a public apology under the post, acknowledging the inconvenience caused. They assured that immediate action was taken after the report was received and all necessary repairs were made to ensure passenger safety. Netizens reacted to the alarming incident, with many expressing concern and relief that no accidents occurred. Some even joked that the scene looked like something straight out of a movie.

Given that similar dangerous incidents have occurred a few times in Malaysia with public transportation doors left ajar, passengers are advised to stay alert in such situations. It’s important to maintain a safe distance and report the issue to authorities immediately to ensure everyone’s safety.
