When the Movie Animation Park Studio of Perak, or simply MAPS Perak, opened its doors in 2017, it drew a sizable crowd of children and adults. Unfortunately, the theme park closed its doors in 2020 after only three years of operation. Four years later, the theme park still sits abandoned without any signs of development.

A Twitter user recently shared a video from the TikTok account @/superscarei that explores the abandoned Starship Restaurant inside MAPS Perak. In the video, the TikTok user shared the current state of the exterior and interior. As shown in the video, many furniture and fixtures remained inside the building but now sit under a thick layer of dust. Overall, the premises gave off an eerie vibe, akin to a post-apocalyptic world.

Many netizens have since reacted to the video, with most expressing shock over how the once vibrant MAPS Perak ended up. Some also reminisce about their visit when it was still open, sharing praise for the theme park and restaurant. Others said it was a shame that the theme park ceased operations in only a few years, questioning what led to the closure. While some argued that MAPS Perak failed because of its location, others said the fault lies in mismanagement.

There were also discussions on how the place could be salvaged and repurposed instead of sitting abandoned and wasting space. Some suggested that movie studios use the restaurant as a filming location for post-apocalyptic or dystopian movies. Interestingly, there are talks about MAPS Perak turning into a haunted house or a zombie-themed attraction. However,  there is no news on any potential development.

It’s a bittersweet feeling to see what MAPS Perak turned out to be. While it was unfortunate that the place died despite its potential, the current abandoned state does pique the interest of many, who seemed excited about the idea of a “Fallout-esque” attraction. What are your thoughts on this?
