In Malaysia, people love attending lavish weddings. That’s basically the tradition that’s been going on for generations. Back in the day, one would invite the whole village to celebrate such momentous occasions. Living in a multicultural country, many would have attended Malay, Chinese, Indian weddings, and more.

Each race has its own unique culture and traditions when it comes to wedding ceremonies but that doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t combine them. We’ve had a Malay couple celebrating their Chinese heritage by wearing traditional Chinese garments and having a lion dance performance while they walk down the aisle at their wedding. Now, it’s the other way around cause this Chinese couple is currently going viral for their Malay-styled wedding.

TikTok user @nasuha.aynaa posted a video of what appears to be a Malay wedding ceremony. However, the caption in the video revealed that the newlyweds were not Malays but a Chinese couple. As a result, the TikTok post has since gone viral, reaching over 459k views, 37.4k likes, and 1.2k comments at the time of writing this article.

The TikTok user was apparently attending her friend’s wedding. Instead of having a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, her friend decided to go a different route and opted for a Malay-themed wedding instead. In the video, you can see many elements from a traditional Malay wedding; from the tents’ set up to the decorations, plus the food and performances.

The groom wore an all-white baju melayu while the bride was clad in a beautiful princess-y wedding dress. Netizens were in awe after seeing the video and loved the idea of a multicultural wedding ceremony. Many applauded the couple for being inclusive and making the wedding more fun and lively for everyone attending.

Although it did rain later that day when the newlyweds walked down the aisle, attendees still enjoyed the beautiful cross-cultural ceremony as it seemed to have brought everyone closer together as Malaysians.
