Earlier this month, passengers on the Kelana Jaya LRT line endured hours of waiting following reports of a service disruption. The issue occurred at around 5pm and was only resolved later that night. The incident understandably inconvenienced many commuters, prompting netizens to express their frustration on social media.
Unfortunately, MRT passengers faced a similar situation yesterday (Wednesday, 22nd October), although this time it was not due to the usual service disruption. Here’s what happened:

According to reports, passengers on the MRT Kajang Line were stranded for nearly 3 hours after an object fell onto the tracks between the Phileo Damansara and Pusat Bandar Damansara stations, throwing the rail system into chaos. Rapid KL confirmed that the incident occurred at around 4:32pm, with staff dispatched to assess the situation. The object that had fallen onto the tracks was later identified as pieces of a nearby billboard that had become detached due to the stormy weather.
While the foreign object was being removed, many took to social media to voice their frustration over the incident. Netizens were upset that it had taken 3 hours to resolve the issue, while those on board the trains criticised the intercom system, saying the announcements were incomprehensible. Others called for some form of compensation each time a disruption occurs, as such incidents have caused significant inconvenience, particularly when they happen during peak hours.

In addition, the disruption caused severe overcrowding on platforms along the MRT Kajang Line, leaving staff with no choice but to stop new arrivals from passing through the payment gates. Some passengers also reported that the trains had briefly moved in reverse, which further delayed their estimated arrival times.
In the end, thankfully, no one was hurt. Still, it was unfortunate that passengers had to endure such long hours just to get home. Although this particular incident was largely caused by the weather, let’s hope it does not happen again — or at the very least, that it can be resolved more quickly in future.
