While many were enjoying the public holiday on New Year’s Day, this group of friends almost lost their lives. Yesterday (Monday, 1st January), the admin for the Datuk Jahat Hensem Twitter page posted CCTV footage of a terrible incident that took place at a coffee shop near Medan Mall in Sibu, Sarawak.

As seen in the 32-second video below, a man in a motorcycle helmet walked into the premises with a bag and a gun in his hands. The unknown individual started shooting at the customers at the coffee shop before fleeing the scene. A second shooter can also be seen firing from outside.

A man, presumably a friend of the victims, can then be seen trying to chase after the suspects with a chair, possibly to stop them from fleeing. According to the post’s caption, 3 men were injured in the terrifying incident. Local authorities and an ambulance were dispatched and rushed to the scene located at Jalan Wong King Huo.

As seen in the timestamp on the CCTV footage, the incident occurred at around 4:55pm. Utusan Borneo reported that the victims were peacefully drinking coffee with some friends when the suspects arrived on a motorcycle and started firing at the group. Thankfully, the victims only suffered injuries on their arms and legs. They were immediately taken to a private medical centre for treatment.

While the incident may have shocked many of the locals in the area, netizens, however, didn’t seem too surprised with some claiming that such crimes are a normal occurrence in Sibu. A few even compared the city to Klang as the two are notorious for many crime cases.
