Criminals would normally target their victims who are alone at night in a quiet area to lessen the chance of being caught. However, one man was apparently bold enough to try and (allegedly) kidnap a woman in broad daylight in a crowded area.

Earlier this week, a TikTok video was posted on the @malaysiacommunity channel that showed a woman being held hostage by a man in a mask in Sri Petaling at 2:30pm.

The 3-second video showed the strange man with his arm around the victim, allegedly pulling her away as onlookers witnessed the incident. According to Chinapress, the woman managed to get away from her abductor and called the authorities with the help of good samaritans.

Brickfields OCPD Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor confirmed that police arrived at the scene soon after and immediately arrested the man who was not far from where the incident happened. The arrest was made yesterday (Thursday, 17th August) at around 6pm. It was reported that the perpetrator was armed and that the victim, who was a foreigner, was apparently held at knifepoint before she got away.

“We seized a red folding knife, mobile phone, and broken glass in the arrest,” said Amihizam in a statement released yesterday. He also confirmed that the victim does not know the suspect and did not sustain any injuries from the incident apart from experiencing chest pains. It was found that the suspect had 6 criminal records including 3 drug cases.

The case is now being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The reason for the crime was not disclosed but we’re still glad the woman managed to escape the terrifying ordeal.
