The Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge or Second Penang Bridge, is known to be the second longest bridge in Southeast Asia, with a total length of 24km.
Recently, a video on TikToker Luca Montoya’s TikTok went viral on the platform. In his post, the foreigner detailed his failed attempt to cross the massive bridge in Penang on his bicycle. “A few days ago, I had to cross the bridge from Batu Kawan to Penang Island. I had no idea if it’s allowed to cross that bridge by bicycle or not, so I just tried it,” he shared.

As soon as I wanted to continue, I got stopped by the police. They told me that it isn’t allowed to cross the bridge by bike and they never saw anyone else before trying it. They were very friendly to me and apologized to stop my little adventure 🥹 The only solution was to get transported by a car to the other side of the bridge. However, his epic journey was cut short. “I made it half the way and stopped to get some video footage, including videos of me cycling this massive bridge. As soon as I wanted to continue my journey, I got stopped by the police (highway staff). They told me that it is not allowed to cross the bridge by bike, and they never saw anyone else attempting to do so before,” the content creator further revealed.
Montoya also said that the officers were very friendly with him and apologised to him for stopping his “little adventure”. Though, he revealed that he waited for an hour for the police truck to pick him up. The video has garnered over 500k views on TikTok at the time of writing (Thursday, 6th April).
The TikTok user’s post was met with tons of responses from Malaysians. Most of them took to the comments section to call Montoya out for his reckless action. “You could’ve checked with the local police station on whether you’re allowed to do it. This is not your country,” one netizen told him. “Bicycle is not allowed on the bridge. Next time please do some research before pulling something like this.”
For those who are curious, Montoya is currently on a mission to travel from Singapore to Alaska on his bicycle.
