As a fashion icon, local celebrity Daiyan Trisha has taken many fashion risks in dressing up. Unfortunately, her recent choice of outfits has netizens riled up, prompting the star to defend herself.
The multifaceted star was in the news recently for her outfit choice for the recent Dua Lipa concert at Axiata Arena. In the video she shared on Instagram, the singer wore a black sheer top over a tube top paired with a patterned skirt. The video, made in partnership with online shopping mall Zalora, also showed Daiyan wearing her chosen outfit to the weekend show. Understandably, many netizens began leaving harsh comments about the star’s outfit.
Many lamented that Daiyan’s dressing was too inappropriate for a Muslim woman, given that her sheer top showed off a lot of skin. Some even said that just because Daiyan was inspired by the Albanian-English singer doesn’t mean she had to dress as sexily as the star. Others even said they no longer want to support Daiyan due to her risque dressing. Despite the negative comments, some fans defended the star and praised her for her outfits.
Daiyan has since responded to the comments through her Instagram Stories. In the post, the 30-year-old shared a comment she first made on her Instagram Broadcast Channel, which wrote, “Isn’t it funny that most of the “comments” on my latest post are from people who don’t even follow me?”. She added, “Like are you just here to drop your unsolicited comments? You don’t even care about me, what I do or who I am. Weirdos lol. Done blocked.”
This isn’t the first time Daiyan has received comments about how she dresses. She’s always been vocal about netizens’ reactions to her dressing, often dismissing the negative comments. The singer also isn’t the only local star who has been criticised for dressing “inappropriately.” Many other Malay actresses, like Eyka Farhana and Qistina Raisah, were also slammed by netizens for supposedly showing too much skin in public.
