Global superstar Jackson Wang (王嘉爾/왕잭슨) is quite open about his personal life. In recent years, the idol has shared more about his mental struggles and past dating experiences. Speaking of dating, it is a known fact that he once dated a Korean girl while he was a trainee. However, he was apparently not supposed to have romantic relationships with anyone at the time.
Jackson appeared as a guest host on the latest episode of the “Hey, Come Here2” YouTube show, alongside his senior Super Junior member, Eunhyuk (은혁). The two discussed the artist’s plans to promote his upcoming album, “MAGIC MAN 2”, in South Korea—a step he hasn’t taken in his solo career. They also reminisced about their trainee days.
At one point during the conversation, the 31-year-old revealed that he was once caught dating someone by a label executive. As is well known, there is a dating ban in K-pop, meaning that trainees, or even debuted idols, are not allowed to be romantically involved with anyone for a certain period of time. “I got caught dating and what’s even more nonsense about the incident was that I actually told that executive, ‘Hey, why can’t you allow true love?’,” the idol shared.
The revelation had Eunhyuk laughing at the absurdity and audacity of a trainee responding in that way to a label executive after breaking the rules. Jackson then added that he tried to bargain, arguing that his dating life would not affect his professional life. Unfortunately for him, as a disciplinary measure, the young singer was instructed to write an apology letter.
Jackson Wang told his co-host that he complied with the instruction and has not dated anyone throughout his career under JYP Entertainment. That moment during the show went viral, with fans mostly amused by the thought of a teenage Jackson Wang being brave enough to argue with a label executive while still a trainee. Some praised him for standing up for himself after being caught, while others commented that K-pop entertainment companies should allow their idols to date, as it is simply a normal part of life.
