It’s no surprise that many Malaysians are celebrating the Chinese New Year festivities with fireworks and firecrackers. However, everyone should remember that there is a time and a place to set off these explosives.
In the late hours of 22nd February 2026 (Sunday), local media personality Jack Lim (林德荣) shared a video on his social media, exposing a man for setting off fireworks next to a petrol station. According to the post, the incident occurred at the Tapah R&R (Southbound) in Perak, at approximately 11pm.

Jack explained that he was on his way to the restroom when he noticed a man setting off fireworks by a truck, not far from a petrol station. The radio host noted how dangerous the situation could be, especially if the fireworks got too close to the petrol station or any of the nearby cars.
In his video, Jack was heard scolding the man for his actions. However, it’s unknown whether Jack had reported the man to the authorities. Regardless, the “Ah Beng vs Liang Po Po” actor warned the public against mimicking the irresponsible act, arguing, “Your fireworks might not shoot upwards and could lead to a very serious accident.”

Netizens and fellow celebrities have reacted to Jack’s video, sharing the same sentiments. Many slammed the man for lacking safety awareness, saying he placed many people in danger with his recklessness. The video also prompted debate over the sale of fireworks to individuals who neglect public safety.
It’s unclear whether the authorities have taken note of this issue. However, we hope they’ll take action against the man and similarly reckless individuals. Since Chinese New Year celebrations are still ongoing, we also hope the public will prioritise safety when setting off fireworks.
