Did you hear? BIGBANG’s T.O.P (real name Choi Seung Hyun, 최승현) is officially flying to outer space next year! For those in the dark, the news about the K-pop star embarking on a mission to the stars above came to light earlier this week.
Confirming the speculations, the K-pop idol shared a post on his Instagram, revealing that he will be taking part in the dearMoon Project, a lunar tourism project from Elon Musk’s company SpaceX. According to Soompi, the project is aiming to accomplish the first-ever expedition to the moon with private civilians.
“I’m so honored to have been selected to be one of the crew members on the dearMoon Project,” the 35-year-old shared in the video posted on his socials. “I’ve always fantasised about space and the moon since I was young. I’m looking forward to my own personal growth through this project, and I want to feel new types of thrills and enlightenment.”
The “Still Life” rapper added, “I feel a great sense of pride and responsibility at the prospect of being the first person from South Korea to go to the moon and represent my country. I hope that the dearMoon Project can inspire and instill hope in many people all over the world. I want to make people feel like anything is possible for anyone who has a dream.”
Apart from T.O.P, the crew members also include Steve Aoki, Yemi A.D, Tim Dodd, and Brendan Hall, among others. Meanwhile, the two backup crew members are American snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington and Japanese dancer Miyu.
