“Toy Story” is one of Disney-Pixar’s most iconic franchises, with many regarding the third film as the perfect conclusion to the story. The fourth instalment received mixed reviews, as some fans felt it was unnecessary. So when a fifth instalment was announced, reactions were similarly varied. However, most viewers are intrigued by the potential plot.
Before we dive into that, let’s look at the first glimpse of the sequel. Earlier today (Wednesday, 12th November), Pixar released the first teaser, giving fans a first look at “Toy Story 5” and a sense of what to expect from the upcoming film. Based on the teaser and previous reports, here’s what we know so far:
Toys Vs Technology

In today’s world, smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles are everywhere, so it is unsurprising that children gradually shift from playing with physical toys to virtual ones as they grow older. That said, not everyone agrees with this change, believing that excessive screen time can be harmful.
With this in mind, it is only natural that the fifth “Toy Story” film addresses this issue. As seen in the teaser, the toys’ current owner, Bonnie, now 8 years old, receives a package containing a frog-designed tablet called Lilypad. From this, we can assume that the toys must now compete with the smart device for who would be Bonnie’s favourite plaything.
Returning & New Cast Members

After Woody left his friends to help abandoned toys find new owners, fans wondered whether Tom Hanks would return to voice the iconic character in Toy Story 5. The news was confirmed by the actor’s brother, who revealed that Hanks would indeed be reprising his role. Tim Allen also disclosed in December 2024 that he had been recording his lines for the upcoming film, describing the story as “really good.”
Anna Faris was announced as part of the cast for the upcoming sequel, although her role was initially unknown. It was later speculated that she would voice Lilypad, but it has now been confirmed that the smart device is voiced by Greta Lee. So who will Anna play in the film? We will have to wait and find out.
“Toy Story 5” Out in Malaysia in June 2026
According to Golden Screen Cinemas, Toy Story 5 is scheduled to hit cinemas on 26th June 2026, a week after its US release. That said, as the date is still some way off, it is important to remember that it may be subject to change, and a delay could still occur. Regardless, fans would prefer to see a complete, well-crafted story rather than a rushed one.
