South Korean actor Kim Soohyun (김수현) went from most loved to most hated almost overnight following damning details of his relationship with the late Kim Saeron (김새론). Shockingly, netizens discovered that Chinese actress Zhao Liying (赵丽颖) might have known about his true personality over a decade ago.
Recently, an old interview clip of Zhao Liying from 12 years ago resurfaced on Chinese social media. The interview was from after the release of the popular South Korean drama, “My Love From The Star (별에서 온 그대)”. The 2013 drama starring Kim Soohyun and Jun Jihyun (전지현) made the actor a household name. It also boosted his popularity, especially amongst female fans. However, Zhao Liying’s comment about the actor and his character sparked interest.
In the clip, the Chinese actress was asked, “How do you view the Do Minjoon (Kim Soohyun’s character) phenomenon?”. Shockingly, Zhao Liying answered, “Girls who watch too many Korean dramas will confuse reality with drama. They long to meet a perfect man like Do Minjoon, but the real Kim Soohyun isn’t like the one in the drama. This gap will only lead to disappointment in the end.”
At the time, Zhao Liying received criticism from fans over her comments about the actor. Many even said she was jealous of the attention the South Korean drama was receiving. However, after Kim Soohyun’s scandal, netizens said the 37-year-old was telling the truth the whole time. Some even called her a god of prophecy and added that she had a good judgment for the actor’s true character.
Meanwhile, Kim Soohyun continues to face backlash for the recent scandal. After losing multiple brand deals and getting his photos removed from billboards, the actor is now facing a possible lawsuit from Disney+. According to reports, Kim Soohyun could be held responsible for all damages incurred by his upcoming Disney+ drama, “Knockoff”, due to production delays or potential shelving of the show.
Despite all the reports, Kim Soohyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, denied all the allegations and said they would take legal action against Kim Saeron’s family for defamation. What are your thoughts on this?
