Apart from sports events, the Bukit Jalil National Stadium is also famous for holding many concerts over the years. As you’ve seen in photos and videos, the concert stages were built on top of the stadium’s field with stars such as BLACKPINK, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Muse and Billie Eilish among those who’ve performed at the iconic venue.

However, the recent shows may have taken a toll on the green field and it’s not looking good for those responsible for the stadium’s maintenance. Here’s what we mean:

A content creator named Mingway, who regularly posts videos of aerial views taken with his DJI drones, uploaded a video on his YouTube channel of him flying one of his drones above the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. The video showed the view of the stadium from above as well as the area around it.

While the YouTuber’s intention was probably to simply showcase the footage quality taken from his tiny aircraft, he unintentionally exposed something else as well. As seen in the screenshots above, as the drone flew to the top of the largest stadium in Southeast Asia, the camera managed to catch the current state of the field inside the venue. Dead patches of grass were seen all over the field, possibly due to the concerts that were held there recently.

Screenshots of the video were then reposted on Twitter last night (Thursday, 21st March) where netizens were shocked by the sight of the stadium’s field and began questioning the management as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Many were confused as to why the national stadium was left in a poor condition after concerts whereas other stadiums were well-maintained. Some were wondering if the Stadium Corporation of Malaysia (PSM) had begun preparations for an upcoming football match.

Of course, there were also those who criticised Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and retired actor Hans Isaac who is the current chairman of PSM. At the time of writing, neither the Ministry nor PSM has addressed the ongoing issue with the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Since the video was posted about a week ago, let’s hope that the stadium is in better condition now or at least a few day days before the upcoming sports event. Watch the full video below to see for yourself:
