Earlier this week, 36 passengers were stuck 60-metres above the ground when Taming Sari Tower’s observation deck stopped working halfway down. While being stuck in a lift may not be as terrifying, it can still be traumatising, especially when you’re disabled.
Similarly, a visually impaired woman posted a video on TikTok documenting the scary moment when she and her family were stuck in a transparent lift at a train station in Cheras. Watch the short clip here:

A woman who goes by Hidayah Al Ehsan posted a video on her TikTok channel of an incident where she, her husband, and their sons were stuck in a lift at Bandar Tasik Selatan train station. As seen in the video, the woman can be heard calling for help while her husband, who is also blind, frantically pressed every button in the lift and even kicked the door. One of her children was also distressed by the ordeal.
Thankfully, a few passersby saw the family in trouble and assisted them by trying to open the doors from the outside. It is understood that Hidayah posted the video while they were still trapped in hopes that her followers could advise her on what should be done in that situation. Some advised the couple to call the police or the Fire and Rescue department while others asked her to keep them updated.
The content creator, however, did not update on what happened next but it is assumed that the family made it out safely as Hidayah has been posting more videos on TikTok after the terrifying episode. In the event that you are stuck in a lift, here are 4 steps to consider according to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH):
- Remain calm. Panicking may cause you to hyperventilate, which can result in you passing out.
- Call for help. Push the alarm button provided and use the intercom to call for help.
- Do not attempt to force open the door and escape as the lift is still capable of moving.
- Be patient. After doing all that you can, remain in the lift and trust that the rescuers outside will get you out safely.
