Malaysians are quite familiar with local singer Nor Ashima Ramli, more commonly known as Baby Shima. She has been involved in several controversies over the years, with new stories about her popping up online every few months. For instance, when she was disturbed by a pervert on social media, or when she was criticised for dancing inappropriately on stage during a festival.
This time around, Shima made headlines after confronting a local singer who supposedly used her specially remastered minus one. In a recent video posted to her Instagram account, the celebrity gave her version of events regarding Pretty Nina’s unauthorised usage of the instrumental version of one of her songs.
The songstress noted that she encourages her music to be played, but not for her uniquely crafted instrumental remix to be used behind her back. “I’ve never stopped anyone from using my songs. In fact, I encourage people to sing and use my music as a source of entertainment. However, what I don’t support is when my specially remastered work was used without consent and commercialised.”
Pretty Nina initially denied the allegations saying that she downloaded the song from YouTube, however, after Shima proved that she was lying, the Sarawakian singer finally admitted that she took it from the technical crew of an unspecified event in which Baby Shima once attended to perform.
The Johor-born artist was outraged, but instead of losing her temper, she calmly discussed what the singer ought to have done. Nina firstly should’ve asked Shima whether she could obtain her permission and work something out. In the comment section, Shima received sympathy from netizens who noted the hardships the performer endured, only to have her work stolen.
Baby Shima and her team have since lodged a warning letter against Pretty Nina to take all existing videos with the unauthorised track on social platforms down. We hope the celebrity will be able to resolve this issue quickly.
