Whenever an international celebrity visits Malaysia, you can be sure they will have the chance to try not only the local delicacies but also wear traditional outfits. In the past, we’ve seen plenty of Korean stars rocking the baju melayu and baju kurung when they came to perform or promote their latest projects.
However, it’s very rare to see them wearing traditional garments outside the countries they visit, so you can imagine Malaysians’ surprise when members of ATEEZ (에이티즈) were seen wearing baju melayu during an event in South Korea. Here’s what happened:

ATEEZ recently made their comeback with their upcoming mini-album “GOLDEN HOUR: Part 2”. To promote the new project, the members held a fan sign event, and at one point during the event, they opened gifts sent by fans from around the world. Some of these gifts happened to be complete sets of baju melayu.
Three members — Hongjoong (홍중), San (산), and Yunho (윤호) — quickly put on the traditional Malaysian garments, and it was clear that the outfits were specifically from Malaysia, as one of the members was seen wearing a ‘teluk belanga’ design — a style popular in Johor. The staff members also helped the singers put on the sampin around their waist. The photos and videos posted by Korean fans quickly went viral among Malaysians, who were excited to see their idols in baju melayu.

Some thanked the fan who sent ATEEZ the gifts for them to wear, while others expressed their excitement at seeing the boys in the traditional attire. The ATEEZ members do look good in their new outfits and who knows? Maybe they will perform in their baju melayu the next time they visit Malaysia for a concert. Here’s to hoping for some good news!
