Immigrating to a new country isn’t uncommon. However, it’s rare for a celebrity to leave a thriving career in their home country to start anew overseas. Recently, Malaysian actor Ben Amir revealed that he recently left Malaysia and now lives on an island in the Philippines.
The actor, whose real name is Muhammad Amir bin Sabaruddin, recently posted a video on his YouTube channel, Island Life with Ben Amir, to share a momentous life update. Apparently, Ben has decided to leave behind his life in Malaysia to live and work on Siargao Island in the Philippines. In the video, he said he’s still getting used to island life and learning about Filipino culture and customs.

The public figure added that he’s now working on setting up his home and business. He also revealed plans to build a villa and start a little farm in the future. Ben also showed off his Tagalog skills in the video, suggesting that he’s also been learning the language. The 34-year-old explained he’ll chronicle his journey from city life to island living on his YouTube channel, detailing his experience and the challenges.
Unfortunately, Ben hasn’t shared details about what pushed him to leave Malaysia. However, the actor is known to be an avid traveller and enjoys the outdoors, so his love for adventure likely drove him to make the move. Many netizens have since shown support for the “Rebel” star and his new life. While some fans expressed sadness over the star moving to a new country, they also said they look forward to seeing his videos on island living.

Some fans also questioned whether Ben’s new life in Siargao means he quit his acting career. However, he assured them he’s still acting and will continue to appear in films and dramas. A quick search online shows that the star still has a few movies in production and is slated for release this year. He was also named the ambassador for a Baju Melayu, suggesting he’s still active in the entertainment industry.
Some fans also said Ben could consider pursuing an acting career in the Philippines. Regardless, we wish Ben all the best in his future endeavours, and we look forward to seeing more of his life in Siargao.
