Earlier this month, the ceiling of a mall in Cheras collapsed and destroyed three stores. The incident went viral online and thankfully no tenants or shoppers were hurt that day.

A similar incident happened yesterday in the Brickfields District, more specifically in Kuchai Lama, where a beam of a commercial building’s roof suddenly collapsed. See the aftermath below:

Last night (Tuesday, 15th August), photos and videos of the collapsed beam of a building’s roof circulated on social media. It was reported that the incident happened at around 10:40pm at Block A of the Sri Desa Kuchai Building at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park.

As seen in the post above, the collapsed portion of the commercial building damaged about 10 vehicles that were parked below. Thankfully, no one was hurt as there were no people inside any of the cars at the time of the disaster. Brickfields District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported from the incident.

“As soon as the public was informed about this incident, the police took measures to surround and close the entire area to avoid any untoward incident,” he told reporters. As for the building’s residence, Amihizam added that the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has conducted an inspection on each floor and found that there were no victims involved in the scary incident.

Members of Brickfields police, JBPM, Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM), and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) were involved in a follow-up operation, and at the time of writing, there has been no update on what could’ve caused the structure of the building to collapse as it did.

Local authorities are expected to release a statement on the cause as soon as investigations wrap up. For now, we’re just glad that no one was hurt by this terrifying ordeal.
