Unlike a Malaysian student in Australia who’s making headlines for her excessive shopping spree, 2 Malaysian students have been making better use of their time.

According to Bernama, the 2 students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai, had successfully reached the peak of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, yesterday at 11:45am.

The local university’s vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar told the national news agency that the 2 climbers were: 22-year-old Mohd Farul Aidib Mahamad Yusoff, a second year student at the Faculty of Management, and 28-year-old Azim Afif Ishak, a UTM graduate who is currently coaching Mohd Farul.

“They went to Tibet in April, and over there, they received the services of a Sherpa to guide them. They started the climb from Tibet, and began the ascent to the summit from Camp 3, at 11:45pm yesterday (Sunday),” he said in a statement.
